Given the amount of materials and the very niche appeal, $300 is not absurdly high if the quality is there -- speaking as someone who just paid more for an X60. Apparently this is well into the realm of custom keyboards so not everyone's cup of hot drinks.
I recall seeing one working prototype on a random Chinese forum a few weeks ago but can't find it any more. Not even sure if it's Red Scarf.
One downside I observed is that the keycaps sit a bit higher than the edges of the case. And same goes to GMK keycaps, which usually have a lower bottom. If the plate is top mounted then we could use a few washers to adjust the height but this is tray mounted. Would be better if this can be addressed in production.
