A feature rich, inexpensive product compared to the neutered and expensive Nintendo product is why I've always said "Fuck Nintendo." They fleece their customers by shipping known sub-par products.

defgI dunno man, every portable Nintendo device I have still works like new, years later... GameBoy pocket, GBA, GameBoy micro, all of them still work. I'd hardly call them subpar

defgThis is so far from accurate it's not even funny as parody. Not only are they well known for devices working damn near forever--they offer extensive customer support.

TragestyXMy point being that Nintendo plans to fuck over their customers at a later point.
For example: 1) the N64 was sold with a mysterious compartment to add in additional RAM later that was required to play new releases. 2) GameBoys were sold for years with green screens and later black and white while competitors like the Sega GameGear or Nomad had full color screens. Instead Nintendo sold GameBoys with different colored body plastic. 3) GameBoys were sold for generations without integrated back lights, asking consumers to buy accessories. Not until 2005(!) was there a back lit integral screen. 4) The Wii controller was advertised as a universal motion controller and then Nintendo turned around and asked customers to buy dozens of accessories to make the Wii controller look like a steering wheel or tennis racket, etc.
I completely admit to hating Nintendo and dislike just about everything of theirs I've ever used.

defgI can see why you'd be angry at that. Tho your statements about the Wii controller's a bit weak. However note that in general Nintendo sells their consoles with profit. This is pretty much the standard business model in the world. A lot of other companies sell consoles at a loss in order to saturate the market and get customer commitment. Then earn money from game sales to cover the deficit. Which is not a normal way to business (very effective tho).
That's why when you try to compare Nintendo consoles to other consoles, they are lacking. The amount of money put into each console is very different. Picture a $300 console for both Nintendo and some other company. Nintendo's cost of making the console might be $250, but the other company would have spent $ 5-600 on it.
Not that any of that matters, since Nintendo's business model is based on IP, and not graphics etc. Even if the game has lower graphics Nintendo still somehow make it fun. This makes their games need less power to run and have less of a dev cost. Both reasons might be why Nintendo games use to be cheaper than other consoles.
You're entitled to your opinion but I can't agree that their products are sub-par. They may not put the latest and greatest tech in their consoles but they are built like bricks. I recently found some old handhelds of mine, a GBA SP, NDS Lite and a PSP 2000. The GBA SP hasn't been used in a decade, the NDS Lite and PSP for several years. I turned the GBA SP and NDS Lite on, they both had GREEN battery. Where as the PSP 2000's battery went bad. We can all agree PSP has the better technology in the 3 consoles, yet the Nintendo products somehow managed to keep near full charge after nearly a decade.

defgFor gameboy argument the gameboy had good games, took only 4 Aa batteries and lasted for 10 hours. The game gear on the other hand took 6AA batteries and only lasted for 2 hours. The game boy sounds more portable to me. Also most of the wii mote attachments that were just for appearance were made by third party companies.
