Why does so many people like staplebounds ? Here they are never used as they use more space and are less practical than spiral ones. As i know, the vote was for student friendly paper, this isnt student friendly

MeganitrospeedPersonally I hate spiral bound. They look terrible to begin with and get worse over time, the spiral seems to constantly be in the way (leading to it getting caught on stuff and damaged). I am not sure if this is the same reason for others but I will never get another spiral bound anything if I can help it... they are utter garbage whoever makes them.

waywardsonI just had problems with the spiral on certain manafacturers, the problem i see with staplebounds, is that they dont keep open easily, they have that force that makes them tend to close, and it can be a bit annoying sometimes.

MeganitrospeedAs a general rule I prefer staple over spiral since spirals don't stack as flat in a bag or on a desk. I haven't tried Rhodia's spiral so maybe they're different. I could see why someone may prefer a spiral notebook when using a single notebook for one class or project but in those cases I would just use a notebook without perforated pages. When I finish taking notes on a notepad page I always rip the page out and file it. That being said, I'm not a huge fan of the Rhodia staple bound pad. The backing is too soft and the cover doesn't fold over well which makes ripping out a page hard. I like Rhodia paper but I prefer a standard legal pad style.

mulrichAs someone who owns the staplebound, spiral, and clairefontaine spiral, I can probably answer this.
The rhodia spiral has a solid black plastic spiral that, while durable, in the last three months in my backpack has caught on a few things and bent the spirals a bit. This was much more of a hassle than I expected, but so far the damage isn't extensive. I'm hoping they do not fall apart in the next few months of school as that would be a serious hassle.
The clairefontaine spiral, Rhodias other brand I guess(?), has strong metal spirals. These are better. They might still get caught on things, but they just handle that shit like a boss. If you get a spiral from this company, I recommend the clairefontaine brand. I just wish they had graph paper spirals, as those are only available through Rhodia.
