Am I reading the comments here correctly that 154cm is considered by members here to be sub-standard steel? If I am reading that correctly, y'all need to do some homework on steels suitable for knife-making. "Best" is not found by reading the most basic information one can glean from the common name of a blade steel. "Best" is found by matching steel with its intended use(s). For my money, 154cm is just as useful for general purpose pocket knives as S30V, S35V, or most of the more exotic steels being touted as "best" these days.
I'm personally pretty much done buying folding knives anymore, but saying this one is over-priced because of the blade being 154cm says less about the knife than it does about the level of knowledge of the commenter saying it. 154cm is fantastic knife steel for general purposes.

BlueTomI don't think that nobody here said that 154cm is crap or sub-standard. I am pretty sure what was meant is that for a knife in this price range, there are better offering that can be had.

BlueTomI think it is more the price range...I do not have problems with 154cm with this price range too much...any thing beyond 150 I will expect s30v as a standard, that being said, 154cm is not bad for this price either. 154cm and VG 10 are two steel I rated as 'good for most use as EDC' I will be happier if it was s30v or s35vn but I am ok with 154cm. I will only be angry if it was aus8 and over 100 dollars...yup, I am talking to you, CRKT...stop being stupid!

RebuswindI can understand your rationale, Rebuswind. At the moment there is a Maserin folder with M390 steel, but not a lick of Ti (handles of aluminum) and it's a liner lock to boot. It's the same price this one will be if it sells enough to get down to $149.99. The M390 is unquestionably higher-end premium steel than the 154cm, but 154cm is still at the lower-end of the premiums, and this one is a Ti frame-lock, which, on balance, is at least as good as the Maserin for general purpose use(s), which almost any folding knife is best-suited for. People on that drop didn't seem to mind at all that it was a liner lock or that its handles are aluminum. I just found it odd seeing negative comments about 154cm here where, on balance, the overall materials list is pretty sweet, whereas, the Maserin's list only has the "pretty sweet" line item of the blade steel. Seems they would both attract the same basic "types" of people viewing the respective drops. Doesn't matter. I'm not buying either, but I do think that people who don't know any better should hear a counter to slams against 154cm. And there were a couple of slams in this comments thread. That's all.

BlueTomFor a EDC...I will be more focus on design than steel...as far as the steel is good to go (no aus8, 440C or 8cr13mov alike...), I will choose the better action and handle material.

BlueTomSlams are not towards the steel (which, frankly, could at least be cpm154) but towards the package vis-à-vis the concurrent offerings from companies like rike, WE, etc. On the contrary, 154cm on my benchmades has performed way better than s35vn on my ZTs.

BlueTom@BlueTom I'm with you here. I think too much gets made out of materials and brand names sometimes. I have a $2500 GTC G force 2 that sits in a safe all the time and I have a $25 Kershaw that sits in my change drawer of my vehicle. Now which one of those two knives has more value to me? Probably the Kershaw because it's earning it's keep daily. The GTC is worth more money, but there are other factors.
I think these companies make some decent EDCs and some knives that are nice to look at. Some of these knives might be right for a person to add to his collection, depending on which way he wants go with it. I think some of the knives by Rike and Maserin and others are built to look like more expensive customs and also will use the "Steel of the month" as a keyword to get Google to stop on its website. Some of the knives are pretty nice and work out as a low-cost option. Some don't.
BlueTom154cm isn't a PM steel. S30 and S35 are PM steels. and the price matches the performance.
You can cut the elitist attitude while your at it.

BlueTomSo glad you said this, as I couldn’t quite find the words to put it the way you did. Nicely, yet strong. Well done, and very well said.

Illinois_knife_guyCPM154 is the PM version of 154CM. It has a finer grain as expected in powdered steel.

RebuswindWhile you’re at it, put Al Mar knives on notice as well—though they make a good go at AUS8, it’s bringin’ me down, man. I think Al Mar does it so people feel grateful when they upgrade to their VG10, lol!
