I met someone from Robert Keyte randomly at a trade show earlier this year when he complimented my tie. I told him that it was from a collaboration we did with Panta, and from there learned that he worked for a company that makes some very rare - and very beautiful - silks. Fast forward many months, and I'm excited to be here bringing Robert Keyte to Massdrop.
As mentioned in the copy, RK is the only remaining producer of this type of fabric. The fact that we were able to dip into their archives and make ties out of deadstock fabrics is especially cool - it's unlikely that these ties will ever be made again. This is the first of four drops with RK, each featuring about four ties from their archives. These will be made-to-order for us and should arrive in peak madder season :)
Oh, and before any comments about how madder ties cost so much, here's another UK-based brand selling these for much more as a point of comparison: https://www.drakes.com/madder-silk-ties
Also, another great article about madder: https://www.asuitablewardrobe.com/blog/not-ancient-anymore-still-near-extinction/
IanAnderson@IanAnderson you mentioned this is the first of 4 drops. Do you have a timeline for the next one? I'd rather wait for it because none of the current 4 patterns suits me.
