That Nyth is a killer concept... it's a laser though, I'm tempted to pull the trigger on it. I remember when it came out... I got thin wrists and i'm pretty (incredibly fussy) when it comes to peripheral choices.... Roccat really led the charge in mouse innovations for a good year or two there.

GMNat0127I have been using a Nyth with the wider side attachment for about a year now. It's been great. I have used it for FPSs, MMOs, and general task management (writing, surfing the web, etc.). I have the buttons set up as forward small 6 and then the back three are larger. So that's 9 thumb buttons total. I've set my laser to somewhere between 2k and 3k DPI as I recall. It's different across my three presets. Once it is set up in the Swarm software, the laser stops having issues when picking up the mouse to reposition.

GMNat0127i know fairly little about this. May I ask what’s wrong with a laser?

MdotMaxsonSure thing! Some people report that when lifting up their mouse to reposition it, the cursor continues to move. Go ahead and try it with your mouse. Does the cursor jitter or jump when you lift the mouse up? As I understand it, the laser continues to track the mouse's position when it would be preferable for it not to do so. RocketJumpNinja's youtube review of the Roccat Nyth reports this, for instance. Both Roccat and Steelseries have an option in their configuration software for adjusting the lift-off distance beyond which the sensor (whether laser or optical) no longer tracks a change in position. I recall Roccat's option being called "TCU" something or other. In the SteelSeries Engine it is simply called "Lift Distance."
That's really all I can comment on without going beyond my knowledge base. I get the sense that the consensus among users is that optical sensors are (or at least have been) more precise than laser sensors, but this has become less of an issue. Again, this is only my surmise.

David_RThanks For you info. I just ordered The nyth off mass drop so it doesn’t come till sometime end of the month. I doubt it’ll bug me. I love to game but at the same time I’m anti competitive. It just seemed nice I could xonfigure one mouse for all types of games. Although I probably will end up wanting a real FPS mouse eventually since it is rather large.

MdotMaxsonYou’re welcome! I hope you enjoy it. I liked having my palm resting flat on it, so I used the wider side extension. But I imagine the smaller of the two could be better for claw and fingertip style grips. While I have come to prefer my SteelSeries 600 for FPS, I do really miss having the Nyth’s many thumb buttons for navigating my desktop and web browser.

MdotMaxsonSorry for the late reply, I was offline for awhile. Optical mice as seen as optimal (or nominal?) choice of for gaming. Lasers are would be tolerated faster (as a law of averages) for MMOs (World of Warcraft) and maybe MOBAs (League of Legends). I guess, ultimately, better optical sensors and/or lasers sensors change the game. I'm actually having problems remembering what my own points of argument would be. Lasers have liftoff issues (which depending on climate, arm physiology etc and desk setup) can be a problem. David_R mentioned the Swarm software, so that's Roccat specific or proprietary. Opticals are seen as smoother movement. I'm sure many people have an optical mouse that's 10-20 years old with a sensor/chip/firmware that they swear by. DPI (industrial point of view) is a financial investment/statement seeing as a 16K dpi sensor would be useful if you were using a 16K monitor etc... (I'm just adding this on sorry), meaning from the point of industry, mouse sensors are outpacing monitor resolution, which means (again) that mouse sensors could become stratified to multiple industrial uses perhaps outside the plastic mould of a "mouse".
