I have bought these in the past. Super cheap build. The microphone is literally a hollow tube. The real microphone is inside the headphone cup. Overall they sounded good for when they worked but I wouldnt recommend them over the cloud IIs.

MoositoThat may be the old design. I know for a fact that the mic is in the boom cause the plastic shroud came apart and I superglued it back together. Also, you can pull off the mic boom (I had to use a lot of force; thought I'd break it) and you'll see a jack it plugs into.

Moosito Also, regarding the boom, don't pull or push from the tip where the mic is. It's not bendable and only stresses the weak glossy plastic shroud where it meets the thick matte plastic. I did it to push the mic closer to my mouth and it eventually cracked.

I really like these headphones. They sound great and seem durable enough for everyday use (though I did chip the plastic where it meets the headband on the right earcup). BUT I almost returned these because of intermittent static sounds. I spent hours trying to fix this by looking online for solutions people have posted on online forums and trying them out. After trying all sorts of computer settings, I contacted Massdrop and they were very quick to respond and answer any questions I had. They graciously offered to refund me but I was still reluctant to give up these headphones. I decided to try a few possible solutions I came up with and the last one worked! Looking back now, I don't know why I didn't try this sooner... In case you don't know, the Analog version has an amplifier which is housed in the remote. The USB plug isn't just for the blue LED lighting, it powers the amplifier. The amp is not that great and if you turn the volume knob to the max you can clearly hear the static hiss the amp adds. It's there in normal volume usage but it isn't too noticeable in silence. Anyways, it seems that the amp is very sensitive and according to what I've read online, is the major point of failure for people who actually have defective headsets. I had mine plugged into a USB 3.0 slot on my ASUS RVE motherboard (it only has 1 USB 2.0 port which I had reserved for my printer). Switching it to a USB 2.0 port eliminated all the random static noise I had been hearing. My guess is that the USB 3.0 produces much more EMI than the USB 2.0.

Sohan24Looks like I jinxed myself. The glossy plastic on the front of the mic boom broke off. It had cracked under normal wear and tear.
