I have bought these in the past. Super cheap build. The microphone is literally a hollow tube. The real microphone is inside the headphone cup. Overall they sounded good for when they worked but I wouldnt recommend them over the cloud IIs.

That may be the old design. I know for a fact that the mic is in the boom cause the plastic shroud came apart and I superglued it back together. Also, you can pull off the mic boom (I had to use a lot of force; thought I'd break it) and you'll see a jack it plugs into.

Also, regarding the boom, don't pull or push from the tip where the mic is. It's not bendable and only stresses the weak glossy plastic shroud where it meets the thick matte plastic. I did it to push the mic closer to my mouth and it eventually cracked.
I really like these headphones. They sound great and seem durable enough for everyday use (though I did chip the plastic where it meets the headband on the right earcup). BUT I almost returned these because of intermittent static sounds. I spent hours trying to fix this by looking online for solutions people have posted on online forums and trying them out. After trying all sorts of computer settings, I contacted Massdrop and they were very quick to respond and answer any questions I had. They graciously offered to refund me but I was still reluctant to give up these headphones. I decided to try a few possible solutions I came up with and the last one worked! Looking back now, I don't know why I didn't try this sooner... In case you don't know, the Analog version has an amplifier which is housed in the remote. The USB plug isn't just for the blue LED lighting, it powers the amplifier. The amp is not that great and if you turn the volume knob to the max you can clearly hear the static hiss the amp adds. It's there in normal volume usage but it isn't too noticeable in silence. Anyways, it seems that the amp is very sensitive and according to what I've read online, is the major point of failure for people who actually have defective headsets. I had mine plugged into a USB 3.0 slot on my ASUS RVE motherboard (it only has 1 USB 2.0 port which I had reserved for my printer). Switching it to a USB 2.0 port eliminated all the random static noise I had been hearing. My guess is that the USB 3.0 produces much more EMI than the USB 2.0.

Looks like I jinxed myself. The glossy plastic on the front of the mic boom broke off. It had cracked under normal wear and tear.

Am I correct in assuming the analog version doesn't need any special drivers or software to get working?
Does anyone know if they will work for console gaming (Xbox One s and PS4)
Feliciano
No, this is a Windows-only headset.
Feliciano
Gotcha thanks
This is a great set, I have the Digital model and I recommend it to everyone. I'm not an audiophile, however I'm impressed with the 5.1 sound actually being 5.1. And never again do I get interrupted by my wife when I'm playing and she calls me, I just click on the button to take the call (through bluetooth) that the Digital version has. The game sound is muted instantly and I can talk while gaming. When the call ends the game sound returns immediately. So unless you're both single and anti-social, this is a pretty big deal! No more having to decide to either stop playing or to ignore a ringing phone, I can do both! Having the Digital version also saved me from buying a 5.1 sound card, since it's included in the Digital version. And I never had any issues with the Roccat drivers/firmware, so all good on this side. The headset is the sturdiest I ever owned. I had a £50 Plantronics before that my 3 year old son easily snapped, and it's one of the main reasons why I ended up buying the Kave XTD. It also fell on the ground several times and it's still going strong. The big let down is definitely the microphone, this is pretty inexcusable of Roccat, and they should have re-released the Kave XTD because of this. However it's still useful enough to make calls, just don't go streaming on twitch with it or teamspeak with a lot of people talking at the same time because the microphone isn't very loud.
I have owned both the 5.1 and 5.1 Digital: Both use the same speakers and headset. Paid $150 and $200 respectively. The normal 5.1 plugs into your sound card outputs. Front L/R, Rear L/R, and Center/Sub, and Mic in. 4 analog plugs. The Digital ones ($28 more) have a 5.1 sound card in the desktop control unit. Single USB connector. The Digital ones have analog 5.1 out + microphone in on the back of the desk controller. You can plug other stereo or 5.1 headphones or 5.1 surround loudspeakers + mic into the desktop volume controller. You can then switch between one or the other. Genius! The Digital ones can also connect to your phone over built in Bluetooth controller. You can answer calls without taking your headphones off, and looking for your phone. This exclusive feature is the reason i bought the Digital 5.1 (2nd pair).
The mic is Ok on the normal, and not the best on the digital model( a bit quiet and muffled like a webcam mic). The cable from the grippy desktop volume controller to the headphones should be longer, and was a critical point on my first set(normal 5.1), because I keep yanking the cable. Conclusion: I will now probably buy them again for this Massdrop price.

So happy I was clearing out my emails and saw this in an old Massdrop newsletter! Just joined 4 hrs before it ended. I've been searching for 3 weeks for a good price on this headset. Really excited to try real surround sound in headphones for once. I originally ordered one from jet (used new customer discount to get it for ~$100) but it's been processing for over a week, so I assume it's been cancelled.
This thing does not go down to 20 hz. Am I able to return this? Bass is a serious requirement. It drops out at 32hz.
Is it real 5.1 or emulated 5.1?

Yeah when i take a phone call or use it for FB video messaging. The mic sounds hollow like a web cam mic.
MurderDogg
Well... That's not good at all.

Yay happy I got this drip but does anyone know where to find the eta estamated time of arival
This drop is more expensive than other retail options...
I have this headset, it's absolutely garbage. Shit sound quality compared to the competition out there. Anyone paying money on this is making a huge mistake.
I literally threw mine in the trash after I got new Logitech G933.
Kexin
You have to be joking. Did you even bothered with getting the settings right for you? Sure, the default isn't all that special, but the Electro setting brings about amazing sound!
I'm a filmmaker and I'm looking for a set of surround sound earphones to check the 5.1 qualities of my own films when they come back from the post sound house. I haven't been able to figure out how to create a 5.1 set up at my editing station, so it occurred to me I might be able to "fake it" with surround earphones . . . IYO would these work? Or are there others out there that would?
Indeed
It might not have the highest fidelity for audiophiles, but its front and back directionality is its strongest point. However, it does have to split the center speaker to both of its front speakers.
THIS WAS NOT THE WINNING PICK OF THE POLL....
the analogue version is stil 5.1 surround correct?
Shaneb
Yes.
Shaneb
But the digital version is definitely worth the extra!
Says only two drivers, how do you get 5.1 from that?
Wgeorge
two 40mm and one 30mm in each ear
