How do these compare to the Massdrop x Sennheiser PC37X's?

LostInTHOTNo DAC in the Senn and the Senn is a true 2 channel where as this is a 'mock 7.1' which I'm personally not a fan of but that's just me. I would assume the mic is of less quality than the senn but I've never used these of course so I can't say for sure. Seems like a good deal overall tho if you don't already have a DAC/Amp.

FrankDrebinEvery headset can "mock" 7.1 as it's a software side thing, Only Razer Tiamat 7.1 v2 has a headphone cable with 5 3.5 jacks for surround sound. You can use software to mock 7.1 on the Sennheisers... aside from software... you can use any of these headsets for their standard stereo audio also. Being that you said you haven't used it... you should probably not be giving reviews on how it performs. As your misinformation could stop someone else from testing the items they're interested in.

Coma_OdinssonTrue, fair enough. I was speaking more to 'perceived' differences between the two spec wise and I did say that I haven't used them. Don't see how that is misinformation necessarily but I get your point. I suppose I shouldn't have given my opinion of 7.1 software sound. I'm just not a fan of other headsets that use that effect.

FrankDrebinSir, the issue was that comment "True 2 channel" They're all true 2 channel. 7.1 is a software thing you have to turn on and off. So by all means express your dislike of simulated 7.1 but it's important to acknowledge all headsets, pretty much, are true stereo 2.1 with the option for software modification. What makes them good or bad are the other mechanics built into their sound stages. For example the best headset I've found for PUBG is the Audio-Technica ATH-AD500x which is 80$. I have tried dozens of headsets including up to the Sennheiser HD650. In my exploration of the audio world I have discovered FPS games benefit from a mild bass and higher treble built into the sound stage. So headsets like the AD700X, 900X, and 1000X; all which I have tried; do not do as good in directional audio as the AD500X. Yet, you can get a solid performance and enjoy the gains in other categories such as music... where the 1000x or HD650's do what I can best describe as rendering better audio graphics. There are so many little sounds and descriptions that are added with these more expensive headphones that are amazing but don't add to my primary purpose gaming. These things are built into the headphones individual sound stage which is why every pair of headphones could give you a different experience.

FrankDrebinI have the 650s (6xx) and the Audio-Gd NFB11.28 DAC/Amp I agree 100 % with what you are saying. So much micro detail you miss without having high-end headphones and a good DAC and amp setup.
LostInTHOTHi @LostInTHOT!
Here are some of the features that set the Khan AIMO aside from the PC37X: -RGB Lighting on the Khan AIMO -Integrated DAC with 7.1 virtual surround -Lightweight (Khan AIMO is 275g vs 354g PC37X) -Auto-mute on the Khan mic when you lift it up
Unfortunately, I can't comment on the sound quality since that's subjective and I may be biased ;)

Coma_Odinsson I own the AD1000X and the AD700 where my 1st good gaming cans. Never heard the AD500X but it was the AD700 that took over in old school Counter Strike back in the day. I have owned many gaming 5.1 headsets, even "true 5.1" or "5.1 channel" like the Zalman RS6F, Razer Barracuda HP-1, and even the Psyko 5.1. All of which are crap when compared to my old AD700 even my new AD1000X. I dunno if I agree with your comments about the HD650/6XX as that 600 series do not have very good imaging. They are lacking in the separation/detail departments to be used for gaming. The HD660S are the best when it comes to things out of the 600 series but still not good enough for gaming. Well, at least for my tastes. The Massdrop x Sennheiser PC37X do NOT have these problems for gaming as they are not based off the 600 series.
The lack of hard bass, soundstage, imaging, detail, and good separation will make for great gaming cans. I would say imaging is more important than soundstage for gaming, but soundstage and imaging should be a married characteristic when describing sound. Having decent to good soundstage with crappy imaging is like having a good idea with bad implementation. I think a good example of this would be the HD6XX, they have decent soundstage with crappy imaging, and it's why they're no good for gaming. Well, maybe not exactly "no good", but not the best and nowhere near it would be a better description for them.
All 5.1/7.1 virtual surround software is doing is distorting existing sound. Yes, they are just putting an EQ on what they think helps out the 3D audio effect. You do NOT need any 3rd party virtual surround software at all to hear 3D audio. Game audio engines have had 3D audio surround in them for decades, and it's been built into Windows since like pre-Win 95. Don't believe me? Turn off all virtual surround in your OS, find some binaural audio, and boom you still have 3D audio. All virtual surround is, is a gaming gimmick. True 5.1/7/1 channel cans suffer from frequency overlapping. For example, since there is more than one driver bass can drown out the sounds of your mids and highs IE: footsteps. Virtual surround is kind of a gimmick and true 5.1/7/1 channel is even worse. You can't go wrong with the AT ATH-AD 500-2000X series and the AKG 700 series for FPS games.
As for the Roccat Khan AIMO 7.1 I can't speak for them as they are a gaming headset and I would never touch a gaming headset again after I have seen the light. The Massdrop x Sennheiser PC37X are based off the Sennheiser 500 series and are great gaming cans tuned for gaming. I would say go for the Massdrop x Sennheiser PC37X if you had to have a gaming headset. If I am going to put my trust into a gaming headset it's going to be put into a sound company not a gaming peripheral company.

FrankDrebinI just sold my AKG K7XX and bought the AKG K712 Pro. Yes, the K712 Pros are amazing cans and more than shine for gaming. I highly recommend them for an all-around headphone and a gaming set of cans. For gaming only I would recommend the Audio Technica ATH AD700X, but if you're looking for more than just gaming I would recommend the AD1000X or the K712 Pro above anything else.
