Uses a subpar Philips Twin Eye laser sensor (probably PLN-2034 from what i can tell) which suffers from z-axis tracking issues. Pretty bad deal, especially considering all the other mice with flawless optical sensors that are on massdrop right now - especially the Mionix Castor. Cheaper and better (if you are not interested in gimmicky features).
Z-axis tracking leads to unwanted cursor movement during mouse lifting which can be highly disadvantageous to all people using lifting techniques.

St0rmr3v3ng3I feel like it's a little beside the point to talk about something like the Mionix Castor within the context of the Nyth. They're completely different mice, aimed at completely different use cases. People looking at the Nyth are going to be looking at the G600 and the Naga, not a mouse with two thumb buttons. If you're looking for an MMO mouse, this is an extremely solid device. I have a G600 and a Naga Molten, and they're currently collecting dust in a box. Replaced both of them with Nyths, one for my laptop and one for my desktop.
If you're shopping for a competitive FPS mouse, this isn't it. Look elsewhere.

phraunYeah and precisely those thumb buttons are useless in my opinion. I have had experience with the Naga, the two lowest rows are incredibly awkward to reach - this is the biggest issue with the weird trend of moving more and more buttons to the mouse, which i see no reasonable justification for - why would anyone do that considering the same functionality can be achieved with a keyboard, faster, easier and with a higher reliability?
Operating systems only support 3 buttons (5 with the addition of the tilting scroll wheel in newest ones), so the thumb buttons inevitably end up being bound to existing combinations on the keyboard. The result being you just have a duplicate set of input for both hands. Even as an RTS player who can't avoid using lots of keyboard bound shortcuts i cant understand the appeal of putting lots of additional buttons on the mouse.
Now not to say the concept is completely unjustified, i have a friend with a hand injury that prevents her from using a keyboard, she basically needs the extra buttons on her Scimitar. But besides those very rare cases, the gimmicky mice are actually counterproductive for the owner. I can assure you the vast majority of those buttons will never be pressed more than one or two times on accident by their owners.

phraunI actually use a G600 for FPS's and do fine. And the Z-Axis issue is fixed with a simple software setting.

ParavaneThe G600 doesnt use the Phillips Twin Eye sensor but an Avago ADNS 9800 laser sensor so it doesnt suffer from z-axis tracking issues, but has the acceleration/angle snapping issues every laser sensor currently has.

St0rmr3v3ng3Dude I don't get why you're vindictive against a mouse. I've used button grid mice like this sense the first Naga came out and I've actually gotten myself trained enough that I don't use the number row. I find it much easier to use all 12 thumb buttons efficiently. I found it works really well when playing spy in Tf2 and I play a lot of MMORPG's. I've been watching tons of reviews of this mouse and the z-axis is a simple fix which yeah kinda sucks that it comes out of the box jacked up, but it's not the end of the world.

ParavaneYou are confusing stuff, the roccat nyth and almost all mad catz mice suffer from z-axis tracking (cursor jumping during lifting).
Laser mice are inferior due to the acceleration/prediction they suffer from)(instead of passing raw data that translates the hand movements accurately)
And how am i being vindictive? I am doin nothing but helping the beginner with researching the pros and cons of the products they might buy. How could helping others with educating themselves on the hardware they are eyeing be bad in any way?

St0rmr3v3ng3Maybe vindictive is incorrect. I understand the sensors in this mouse as well as many mice of this type are inferior. I'm fully aware there are issues, my G600 started doing some weird stuff recently. But I think the issue here is you're comparing sensors on this mouse to a mouse of a totally different type. I'm not 100% educated on this point but if you want to compare mice you'll need to compare the Corsair Scimitar, Logitech G600, and the Razer Naga to this one.
" why would anyone do that considering the same functionality can be achieved with a keyboard, faster, easier and with a higher reliability? "
I'm debating this point mostly. I've also been using a 12 button thumb mouse since the first Naga. I use all 12 buttons when the game allows it and have no issues finding them on my thumb. I even catch myself using it instead of the Number pad sometimes. I'm much faster and more accurate using the side buttons as opposed to the keyboard, and I never have to move my hand away from WASD. It eliminated the issue I had with moving my hand to the number row then back to the wrong spot ESDF or QCapsLockAS or even SZXC.
You also mention educating beginners, which I understand and that's really cool of you. However most people here aren't looking for a beginner mouse. This is a VERY expensive mouse and I don't think most beginners would think to start here. I know when I first start PC gaming I didn't understand mice at all. So I sure as well wouldn't get one with 25+ buttons.
But I suppose to each their own. I've played with this mouse at conventions on the show floor. I've been eyeballing it and reading reviews for the better part of a year and recently got a job where I can splurge a bit and decided what the hell, I don't mind supporting this site and getting a kickass mouse. I'm fully aware an optical sensor would be WAY better and 12kDPI is just a silly marketing tactic. I actually use 300DPI on my G600 and that's been feeling a little too high lately. I didn't mean any disrespect it just seems like you have something against someone buying something they want. Though people should research purchases like this. Being you're dropping $100 on something.

St0rmr3v3ng3I'm not sure why everyone else uses the buttons, but I use them because my left hand is screwed up (I can't use a keyboard because of a left radial nerve injury). Having a few extra buttons on the mouse and using a special joystick controller I built, I am finally able to play FPS style games again (and can actually do a decent job of competing, too). The Nyth is far superior to the Naga (I owned a Naga Epic before the Nyth). One of the "gimmicky" features that comes in handy is the ability to replace two 1x1 buttons with a 2x1 button. My main issue with the Razer Naga was that the two furthest rows were basically unusable because I had no way of knowing what row I was on past the first two. Replacing the third and fourth rows with a single row of larger buttons might have lost me six buttons I wasn't using, but I gained three buttons that I could now differentiate from the first two rows.
My custom controller has all the movement and the most-used buttons on it, but I needed a place to put my voice chat's PTT button, quick select buttons for primary/secondary/melee weapon, sprint (easier to just hold a button down on the mouse than it is while trying to also move a joystick), flashlight on/off, and sometimes grenade, all depending on the type of game.
I have been playing a bit of Grim Dawn lately (normally don't play RPG/RTS style games), and I have basically been playing the whole game on the mouse, which is kinda cool. I do reach up and hit the keyboard to open up some of the screens for assigning skill points or reviewing mission instructions, but I am mostly just doing battle with one hand on the mouse. I'd imagine that is one of the things that draws people to these types of mice for these styles of games. If I can play Grim Dawn with one hand on this mouse, then a pro could destroy Warcraft with two good hands.
