Very unhappy with paying 20 dollars for these things. You must push them very far into your ear, to the point where it becomes uncomfortable, and if you don't have a proper amount of earwax, you're just not going to get a good seal. And the only time it does form a properly good seal, there's an uncomfortable vacuum effect on your inner ear. Any movement of the head or jaw will dislodge them from their sealed state. I haven't used these at a concert yet, but I can only imagine how often one would need to adjust these if they're moving around.
There is a small trick to inserting them, but the guide wasn't very helpful with their images. The key to getting a decent seal on these is the twisting motion, and to also make sure that the tip of the plug is angled properly so that it's not hitting the sides of your ear canal as you're twisting it in.
After only 1 use they've become very gross, because the earwax will get inside of the little rubber folds, and even inside of the hole at the end. I've tried cleaning them with some tissue paper but it seems like it's a more involved process than this.
I got the highest hearing protection level, and it still doesn't seem to cancel out that much noise. I was watching a movie when I first received them, and I tried them out while listening to the movie. The only difference I noticed was the background noise becoming much less noticeable. There was rain in the background and I wasn't able to hear it. But that's about it. All of the voices and explosions sounded and felt the same, even after I was sure to seal these properly.
These are 7 dollar earplugs and I'm not sure why I thought any different when purchasing these.
To those of you saying that you can get 2 pairs for only a few more dollars, I haven't been able to find this. I can find some other Rooth branded earplugs for 3-6 dollars more, but they're not the same ones.
Anyway, very disappointed with the value of these earplugs and would advise other people to stay away at this price point. Just go get some 10 cent foam earplugs and call it good. You'll definitely lose out on some fidelity, but you'll make it up in pretty much every other aspect of an earplug. Sound dampening, comfort, fit, etc.

brandonsturgeonWell....Your ears are fine without cleaning them if you are not putting anything in them. However, excess earwax is probably not going to help in any way if you are using earbuds or earplugs. The oil from the skin inside your ear should be enough for the seal you are talking about. Not only would I be concerned with how dirty they can get if you don't clean your ears, but also you may have a lot of build up if you use something like this a lot. In other words, stuffing all the excess wax back into your ears. You may not have this problem there but it could even be causing your ears to not have enough room for these to be placed properly.
Also, if you clean your ears properly, the vacuum effect might go away (if you mean like popping if you pull them out).
BTW you should be able to clean them with soap and water

brandonsturgeon+1about the poor fit. Can't seem to get an airtight seal. Even my earbuds seal better. The tips are really long too! My ears hurt after trying to jam them in :( it's a shame, they looked really promising.

brandonsturgeonThe point of these is to be ABLE to hear everything that goes around you, just at a lower volume. Try putting these on, turning up the volume on your speakers until it's pretty loud, and removing the earplugs for a split second.

asdkzdasd1213I know, and they do their job poorly for the amount of money I spent. I think my main complaint is the value. These are _not_ worth 20 dollars, in my opinion.
