I have been interested in this drop for some time, but the interior patterns on the envelopes are a little florid. I would not be comfortable sending to a colleague. Any chance we can see something more understated in the next drop?
Shipping cost is 1/3 price of the product. Whoever puts these drops together is out of their skull.
Massdrop will ill ship a TV for free but somehow pieces of paper cost quite a lot to ship.

You pay for shipping whether it is in the price or separately. The total cost is all that matters. It is fascinating though to see how viscerally shipping costs impact highly emotional consumers.
I am still waiting for an update. Estimated ship date was 6/5/17 - today is the 9th and nothing.
I wanted to buy this, but not with this shipping cost. You lost a sale Massdrop. Next time consider carefully before you pad your revenue from shipping charges.
$7.75 to ship three small boxes of stationery. In other words: add one third of the lowest cost just for shipping. Wow!
MD should provide complete, accurate price information by including the shipping cost in the price points on the product description page.
In providing this information, MD would be giving its customers great customer service and transparent, honest cost information. Isn’t this something MD would want to do for their own customers? After all, MD is always talking about its “communities” and touting how much “we saved” on a completed drop.
I’ve found a fair number of good deals on MD, including the shipping cost. But I’ve also seen a fair number of apparently good deals that turn out not to be good deals because of the shipping price. Especially when so many MD product offerings are available from other online vendors at similar (or lower) prices, with lower sipping costs, or free shipping – and no long wait.
I cannot understand why MD refuses to provide its customers with clear and complete cost information in an easily accessible manner. Unless MD is hoping that some portion of its customers won’t take the time to do the math and end up with a lousy deal. So, sure, withholding complete cost information makes sense if your business model is based on gulling some of your own customers into thinking they’re getting a good deal when they really are not. Not very friendly, but it does make sense.
I’ll continue to shop MD because there are enough genuinely good deals to hold my interest. But it’s irritating to have to have to click to another page in order to determine the actual product cost. Not an onerous chore, I know, but frustrating because it would take no effort for MD to provide this information to us up front.
Their continuing refusal to do so doesn’t indicate much respect for their customers.

Everybody has a different shipping cost based on your location. It is not unreasonable to click through and then stop. I would say that an app to calculate shipping cost (like Ebay) would be useful, but you are paying for shipping on everything you buy. It is simply baked in, which means usually those who live in major cities are subsidizing those in rural areas or those far from major warehousing locations (with some regionality of course). I agree with you, but my guess is that the application/function to easily display shipping is less easy to develop than we imagine.
Not much of a deal thanks to Massdrop padding their revenue with shipping. Wow, I save $2.00 off MSRP and have to wait forever to receive it.
What is the 'writing paper pattern' option for? In all of the pictures the note paper doesn't have patterns, only a metallic border. Thanks!

How does this paper hold up to fountain pen use?
SkipPp
Really well, actually. When I tested these samples out, I used the LAMY Joy calligraphy pen seen in photos, with the included LAMY cartridge. There was no feathering or bleed-through on anything, and very minimal ghosting on the letter paper (so you could probably write on the back without issue with most pen/ink combos).
It just urks me knowing that regular wholesale is btw $6.5 - $8 a box (if you buy 6 of them directly from Ross). That is a bit too much of a markup for me to write w/out heartburn.

Thank you for offering this drop again! I bought some a while ago and just ran out recently, so the timing is perfect. Beautiful stationary set, and the paper is fantastic with fountain pens (I use stub nibs and Pilot Iroshizuku inks mostly).

I was very happy with my first order of this stationary. Interesting and attention getting. Not for everyday use, however when it fits, it's great.

Thanks @dholik8503 and @NobodysPerfect for your useful comments about this stationery set!
Can any other current owners of these cards and/or writing paper speak to your experience with it? Are there other inks to suggest or recommend in addition to the Iroshizuku line? Even more crucially, any to avoid? I'd imagine broad and stub nibs would work well on this more textured paper but are fines and extra-fines unworkable? Did any of you need to use a Japanese writing mat or board? Lastly, what kinds of drying times might we expect, and does the paper provide a good medium for the shading of ink?
Thanks in advance. I've been tempted by this set during earlier drops but always resisted. But I guess I'm looking for reasons to say yes though I have stationery to spare just now! :o))

I would sacrifice a card and try out the palate of inks you currently like. I often use Diamine Red Dragon and Oxblood, Graf von Faber Castel Royal Blue, Deep Sea Green, and Hazelnut Brown, Caran d'ache Idyllic Blue, Noodler's Black Swan In Australian/English Roses....the list goes on and on. As you can see, I am a serial ink junkie. There is always one more ink to try. 😊
I would like them to offer this again.

it looks beautiful. I wish the exchange rate was more friendly right now :(
Is the paper actually fountain pen friendly?
(I know the picture shows Edelstein ink and a Lamy Safari, but would like to actually hear that it'll handle most nibs and inks rather than have it implied).
KarlBlessing
Hi @KarlBlessing,
I wrote on both the notecards and the lighter stock writing paper, and they worked beautifully with the LAMY Joy calligraphy pen that I used in the writing sample shots. My first sheet of test paper also did well with a Noodler's Konrad Flex filled with 1670 Emerald of Chivor, a Souveran M805 Medium nib filled with Edelstein Topaz, and a Pilot Falcon SF filled with Iroshizuku Tsuki-yo. There was no bleed-through, very minimal ghosting on the other side (that was only really detectable with the darker spots of ink when I stopped on a letter with the LAMY), and no visible feathering.
This Italian paper is slightly textured though, so it's not the same kind of slippery-smooth writing experience one might get on vellum-finish paper, like Rhodia. So there's definitely a little more feedback than you might be used to if you use your pens primarily on that kind of paper.
Overall though, the paper performs very well with fountain pens, and I would recommend it for any fountain pen user looking to step up their correspondence-game. I put all of our potential paper products through writing tests with all the major pen/ink types, and if it's not fountain pen friendly we do our best to make a note of it in the description.
Hope this helps!
KarlBlessing
A quick google search shows the paper as being fountain friend friendly.
