If anyone is wanting a good military style boot I would suggest getting something else.
Danner, Bates, Belleville, Rocky, and Sketchers all make really great boots and I would suggest getting a pair of those instead of these.

Dirthole04Better quality and materials so they will last longer and support you better.
The things I look for are ankle support, replaceable soles, and durability. If the soles are cheap and glued on then you will have to replace the entire boot instead of having a new sole put on. So if you end up spending $200+ on a pair of boots and the sole lasts you two+ years and having a new sole put on only cost you $50 then you are saving money.
Ankle support is huge for boots like these since most people that would get them are doing a lot of walking through difficult terrain or random machinery, assuming you get some with a steel/composite toe. You will save yourself a lot of hurt if you trip and fall, especially if you are lugging around a ruck sack or any type of gear. Trust me, a twisted ankle is not fun when you have a full ruck and in the middle of nowhere.
Another thing to look for is quality, you get what you pay for. A lot of the time some of the cheaper boots will advertise that they use the same material as the higher end boots but most of the time they don't or it is a very inferior material. Not only do you need to look at the fabric and rubber of a set of boots but you need to see what kind of glue they use for the sole. A cheap pair of boot will have a really crappy glue holding the sole of the boots on and it sucks when that glue gives out when your in the middle of nowhere or in the middle of work.
Buy cheap, get cheap. Do research and spend the money on a good pair of boots that can last you a lifetime. I have a pair of Sketchers, Rocky, and Belleville that have hundreds of miles on them, each, and they have been through hell and back but were well worth the price.

Epic_EnkiduI don't get your math. Suppose you have a $200 boot that needs the sole replaced in 2 years, that's $50 every 2 years. If you buy this boot and replaced it every 2 years then that's $28. $50 every 2 years is significantly more expensive than $28 every two years.

BlueCrownedYou are assuming this boot will last two years.
You are also taking the math a bit too literal. Obviously it will depend on the person and how much they get used, I have seen some last five years. For me it was a good deal considering a pair of boots would get me through an entire deployment plus another year, so $50 every two years was a great investment.

BlueCrownedThese boots will run you longer than 2 years. I've had 4 different brands and styles of jungle boots, in at least 13 years, and I could still wear 3 of them. It's really hard to mess up a jungle boot, I only had to really replace one of them, and that was because the ripple bottom sole was getting flat and splitting after two years of heavy daily use.

Epic_EnkiduI agree--to a point. Purchased a higher-end Bates boot years back and when it came time to resole them, Bates offered no resoling service. Best price I found locally was $100. That turns a $200 pair of boots into a $300 pair. Buying two, $100 pairs would have been cheaper. That's not always the way of it, but sometimes, it is.

Epic_EnkiduCorcoran and reebok make decent boots too. Belleville are the standard to me though.

RayFHonestly, it isn't really fair to add the price of having a pair of boots resoled to the overall price of the boot, especially if the cost of a resole was a few years after you got them. It would be like increasing the price of each shirt you own everytime you do laundry.

Epic_EnkiduYou can wear a shirt when it's dirty and laundry is damn near free if you prefer not to. You can't wear boots with a hole in the bottom and they're trash if you don't resole them. It's a cost of ownership thing--you either maintain your assets or you write them off.

RayFI used a bad analogy. To the point, $100 every few years is a better investment than paying $100 every year or two, imo.
I am lucky since I have a cobbler in my town that charges ~$70 for a basic sole and ~$100 for a "premium" sole.

Epic_Enkidu$70 is a good price--and who's to say a year is all you'd get on the factory soles--someone might go longer than two years between resoles? If someone wears them for fun, the sky's the limit. On the other hand, a "work'n man" might wear them everyday and blow through them in eight months.
Bottom line is: wear what you like as long as you like 'em--and the hell with the cost ;- )
