I have a 50" chest in circumference, which size should I order that hopefully won't fit like a dress around the mid-section?

LitznerSame here. 3XL for a 31" chest ROFL! These are China sizes, and no way will these fit us.

Litzner50 inch chest?I'd think about height and waist, too. For the chest size, maybe extra large, or even 2X. But you've got to consider the sleeve length and so on. If you're short and, well, portly, it's a whole other thing than if you're 6'4" and svelte. These jackets run large by at least one size. But they assume a reasonably fit physique. If you're rotund, the sleeves are likely to be too long. I'm about 5' 8" and 160, more or less. Small actually fits me just about right, and I haven't worn small anything in my entire adult life! Large short is perfect for me, in USGI size, but medium regular usually works well enough. In the Rothco field jacket, medium equals large. Does that help? There is a drawstring at the waist that you can adjust to pull the waist in. When I was in the service, I had about a 48" chest, at the peak of my training, but not now! You've got to consider your overall physique. Rothco doesn't: they assume the bigger your girth., in the chest, the longer your arms, proportionately. These run to the large side, but the length is proportional to the girth, too.

LitznerRothco's M-65 isn't a tailored fit at all: more like a sack with arms...baggy arms, at that. Good luck getting one of these that actually fits well. You might get lucky, but I'd sure look for someplace that carries them and you can try before you buy, or else see if anyone you know that is about your size has one you can check out, first. I'll bet you big guys have a lot of trouble shopping off the rack at retail! I'm sure Rothco makes a jacket big enough for you, but I'm not sure I'd trust their size guide to make the choice, sight unseen. As for over all fit, all you can really do to shrink the torso is pull in the waist with the drawstring and knot the ends to keep it that way. The bottom string blouses the hem to keep air out, but the first thing I do with a Rothco is replace that drawstring with elastic shock cord so it has some give to it. Theirs won't let you bend or sit very easily unless you untie it -- not much use if you have to undo it to bend over or sit, or maybe even be able to walk normally. I also have to either add Velcro at the sleeve cuffs or move the stuff that's there to close up the wrists on these stovepipe sleeves. Good, sturdy chore coat, though. Pockets are a plus, although the chest pockets are't quite as big as on the GI field coats I have.
