Mine arrived today. Feels great. Lovely leather.
As for the complaints about the size, you can see clearly in the photographs where the Field Notes sit in relation to the cover. Its as clear as day in the photos.
Its a good size and something I plan to customise Midori style.
IanLI'm actually glad to see someone came up with the same idea. I'm planning on buying the elastic to do the exact same thing. Considering this has a built in pen holder and pockets on the inside, it would make a pretty badass Midori.
fr49200Yes, I have some coffee coloured round elastic cord and a leather punch sitting on my desk right now.
Just working up the courage to make the first hole!
Field Notes Midori FTW
IanLThat is sick!!! Thanks for sharing, Ian. And nice Dark Brown color. I see you already have a nice patina and the weird sheen from the description pictures is gone. Can't wait to play with mine. Too bad seems it hasn't left Jersey yet. Ahh patience.
ADV.RIDEHey @ADV.RIDE -- I think @Edge was very close here, but I am pretty sure that's a LAMY AL-star. It's the same size and shape as the Safari, but with an aluminum body (this one is the black finish), instead of the Safari's textured plastic body. This looks very similar to the Safari's charcoal body, but I see a glare that indicates a smooth, glossy finish.
LongTrangYou can get the elastic in a multi color pack (mine was varying shades of white/tan/brown) for ~$3ish at most craft stores, like Joann Fabrics, Michaels, or AC Moore. I did the same modification to make mine a Fauxdori.
cmorrowThanks dude. I might have to get another one to fauxdori. Not sure if I want to do the one I currently have.
PS I hope your nose isn't bleeding in your thumbnail pic. Probably just beard shading.
lucimckYes, I happened to have a leather hole punch too, the kind with the rotating bits that you can select the hole size. I just chose one close to the diameter of the elastic cord, measured out the middle of the cover, and punched 2 holes at each end and one in the middle.
cmorrowGood to know. I've got the same punch as you do, it sounds like. I was just hesitant to try it. I think I might do the three-holes at top and bottom so I can run more vertical elastics. Thanks for the info!
lucimckI think it is a pretty low risk thing to try. If you're worried about liking it, my one suggestion might be to avoid punching the middle hole, and then if you decide you don't like the fauxdori setup, you can leave the elastic in the ends, it gives the cover a nice little accent color, but don't have to worry about an unused hole in the middle.
