That would be a nice knife to wrap in paracord.

Seems to me there was a very spirited discussion regarding this or similar titanium knife with a carbidized cutting surface. The concern was whether general use and/or sharpening would wear through the cutting surface over time and reveal the plain titanium, which is tough but not wear resistant. The maker gave his opinion as to why this would work...can the admin resurrect the prioir thread regarding this issue? It would be helpful to those who are considering the product for purchase. I feel that saving a few grams in weight would not necessitate the price jump from a typical well known steel (154 CM, S30V, S35VN, D2, 440 C or similar) to titanium in this case...but that is just my opinion.

I agree, that sheath is um...different. Maybe it works well, but I doubt it's better than kydex, leather, cordura, thermoplastic, wood. Actually, if you hang this around your neck, slip on a mossy log or rock and land on your stomach...

painkillerThe one I showed in picture is a cKc Hiker. It's a knife blank by Svord made for a knife maker named Kyley Harris. He used to make a bunch but doesn't make too many knives for sale anymore, so Svord offers the Hiker themselves nowadays. The factory version is not as 'finished' as Kyley's, but basically the same knives.
My thoughts on this one is that the finger choil seems too small and that sheath is hilarious. It's also not a very good value compared to the Kestral which if I remember right was around the same price - this design should be cheaper to manufacture and the Kestral comes with a kydex sheath on top.
In terms of the titanium/tungsten carbide knives 'wearing out', the carbides on the back of the blade is basically the lifespan of the knife. Never heard of someone actually wearing one out through sharpening, but I've also not heard of many people who use these knives often.
My main gripe with the Ti/cabide knives is that they don't cut very well and the edge strength is weak when compared to steel. The weight savings keeps coming up as a big selling point, but like I mentioned before the difference between steel and Ti at this size isn't a concern imo(especially for the trade off in cutting performance). The only real advantage I can think of for Ti knives like this is the corrosion resistance, if you're around saltwater a lot.
