Why is this under Men's Accessories? This does not look like a men's wallet.

CogsworthYou’re buying into gender stereotypes. It’s a men’s wallet if a man says it’s a men’s wallet. Conversely, if a woman says it’s a women’s wallet, then it is.

boydavidHey man if you like lady’s wallets more power to ya. So if I say a dress or a bra are lady’s clothing, is that gender stereotyping too?

CogsworthYou asked a question, and I answered. Please don’t assume that I like this wallet or any other. Thank you.

CogsworthIt's a "long wallet". It's a style more popular with women these days as they're easy to find and keep in purses, but they've been popular with men for decades. I believe they're also popular in countries where high denomination coins are in common circulation as these include a coin purse.

CogsworthMaybe you're using the terms wallet and billfold interchangeably?

LamarrFirst of all everyone, I never said this was a lady's wallet, I said it does not look like a men's wallet. I don't know what men carry in other countries, but in my experience here in the US most men carry billfolds or money clips because "long wallets" don't fit in a back pocket. Personally, I don't carry a purse or messenger bag around with me everywhere to make a "long wallet" practical. For this reason, I question what the market for this item would be in the "Men's Accessories" category. Maybe huge in Europe for all I know.
Also, here in the US when it comes to men's accessories the terms "wallet" and "billfold" are generally interchangeable, but I have never known anyone to say anything like "damn I left my billfold at home". We just call them wallets.
Having said all that, this item still looks feminine to me. It's also modeled and named after a female lead character. When I look at it I think it looks like a lady's wallet, plain and simple. My girlfriend looked at it and said "that's a women's wallet". YES I am assigning gender to an inanimate object. Sue me. It's my preference and if it's not yours, so be it.
In other news, the ShopDisney website has these for sale at the full retail price, and it says only 150 were made. It surprises me that Massdrop got a hold of any of them.

CogsworthI agree that this wallet is oddly styled for what it's intended audience would be. I associate long wallets for men these days with very formal use; you'd put this in your over-coat's breast pocket at a charity benefit because you can stuff your checkbook in here. This seems way too rustic for that type of use. Really seems more like a collector's item more than something practical.

I don’t think this is accurate. A billfold is the most common type of wallet, but that does not make the terms interchangeable. On the other end of the spectrum from long wallets, there are plenty of minimalist wallets on the market now which are not billfolds but are still wallets.
But I agree that this wallet is not styled in the way one expects men’s wallets to be.

CogsworthHey I'm in the US too. I just happen to have enough vocabulary to differentiate the two. If you wore a suit or sport coat as an everyday thing then a wallet in an inside coat pocket is much more practical than sitting on a billfold. The billfold was designed as a substitute for a proper wallet.
