I've been writing with this pen for a bit now, so thought I'd put my thoughts down, in case anybody was interested...
I'm definitely still getting used to writing with the pen, and the nib, and am far from proficient with it, but am definitely happy I pressed the button, and hope the learning part of ownership doesn't end. The 'pencil-like feedback' comments are accurate, and the variance in width--as well as the ability to shift from a regular to relative italic nib, in one nib--is incredible. Even more so than I've seen on writing samples, for my writing style.
The nib is stiff for what it is made of, really beautiful, aesthetically as well as practically the showcase of this pen. And the rest is very nice too, sturdy and solid (save for a little clip wiggle). Everything lines up, and my pen had no discernible flaws. I don't see any glue at the end on mine, but that could be more an issue with my eyesight than anything. Anyway if it is there it isn't noticeable.
To me the loss is the small ink capacity vs. the size of line this pen can put down: the included piston converter has a small tank, and the cartridges, which are proprietary, aren't much bigger (not that I would confine myself to limited ink choices anyway). And I wish the converter was different, as there's still some spare room inside the pen. Also not sure why the bit that you spin need be so long... Perhaps these are quibbles, and I'm conscious of the notion that producing a somewhat custom converter is not so easy or cheap.
But for me the end result is that the pen runs out faster than any other pen I have. My current fondness of writing with it may also play a part in this minor dissatisfaction, it's just something I will have to get used to. Which is just fine.

Just wanted to add a few comments regarding item description. Pen writes beautifully, smooth and juicy, with provided cartridge. Line is a bit "fatter" than a standard Medium nib from Sailor. End of pen body, where there is a silver like bank, appears to have been "glued" on, something like glue shows through. Did anyone else have this? I'll try to add an image later on.

It looks like the end of pen is different from the one sold by Anderson Pens. The end section there seems to be screwed on. Also note the converter is black instead of whitish transparent in this drop.

SkyPI noticed the same on mine. I also guessed some kind of glue.

Are we going by to be getting an update about this soon? Seems to me there are some unanswered questions that may affect the purchase of this item, or there are on my end, anyway.

I suspect that Sailor's hiatus on producing those particular nibs might delay any near-future drops of this pen... But then again, I don't know how they got the 29 nibs for these pens (or 29 pens with these nibs), so who knows! Anyway, with the number of requests they have received for this to drop again, I'm sure it will happen as soon as they can get the product.

Has anyone received word yet from Massdrop whether the description (listing gold trim) is correct or the photos (depicting silver trim) are correct? I have already reached out to Massdrop, and they responded back that they are checking into it.

http://www.fountainpennetwork.com/forum/topic/132987-sailor-21kt-zoom-vs-naginata-togi-shoot-out/ Used for Asian calligraphy and, someone mentioned also Hebrew calligraphy, line variation achieved with pen angle to paper.

TorahdivaThank you for the link, very informative.
There is so much wrong with this listing it boggles the mind. I do not consider Naginata Togi the be extremely rare, or even rare for that matter. Sailor is backlogged on orders and will begin resuming Sales to dealers in 2018. My price will be less than Massdrop and customers will know exactly what they are getting, without the hype presented here. You’ll also know exactly what trim version you’re getting. Naginata Togi run Broad, not finer like typical Japanese nibs.

BrianAndersonPensThe nibs are not available now though, right? They have stopped production for the time being, that's well reported, so what constitutes "rare" in your oppinion? Your site appears to have no Sailor pens whatsoever at this time, and the one listed in the "Coming Soon" section has nothing to do with what Massdrop has procured here other than the manufacturer. While not making it my day job, I've searched the net for an equivalent to this pen and haven't found anything that isn't used so far.
geemoneybeI have lots of Sailor pens but I only have two pens with Naginata Togi nibs. These will likely be available in the summer with normal delivery (30-60 days or less).

Massdrop, confirm trim and nib color on this pen. I would never have joined for a gold (yellow) color. I will charge back this order if the picture does not match the actual pen.

I'm in, have read a great deal about these nibs... Now I just hope that this is the nib I've read about! Also hope that the images are not black-and-white, that the nib is rhodium-plated, and that this pen can be eye-droppered. If so, then I will consider myself very lucky to be #29.

I think the photos are in black-and-white; if so, the nib will be gold. The nib is a specialty nib for writing kanji characters: it is narrow on the downstroke and wide on the crossstroke. If you use just the tip, in an extreme writing angle, it writes a very narrow line. I have one; I really like it (and have joined this drop), but it is not for everyone.
