No support for the (now mostly defunct) DVD-Audio format is the deal-breaker for me.

Do you happen to know of a good 4k player that does support DVD-A, that is in this price range?

I don't have hands-on experience with Sony, but the UBP-800 and UBP-1000 both claim to be able to play the format. Problem there is I'm willing to bet the farm there's an egregious amount of oversampling or compression going on in the player's internal DAC, and from what I can see, getting an unmolested lossless surround signal off the player is near impossible, unless I'm misreading things. But it's Sony, so it will probably suck. What I've been doing is using a standard external PC BR player and using JRiver as the software, then porting the signal off to a MiniDSP UDAC-8 through USB audio cabling. Then from there the RCA cables take it to my surround amp. The sound is passable but not excellent. I've read VLC can also play DVD-A discs but I haven't tried it yet. So it requires a PC to go this route... I wish Oppo hadn't killed their players...
You guy's are trying to sell an old Blu-Ray player for the price of a 4K Blu-Ray Player? Wtf?!?
No HDR, No Dolby Vision = No Sale. This is old video tech. Look up the specs on a Panasonic DP-UB820 if you want to see what you should be looking for.

no hdr
Yup--only upscaled. That's a non-starter for me, since my OLED no doubt would do a better job of upscaling standard hi-def content from the blu ray.
Same price right now on Amazon.
So this isn't true 4K? Only up-scaled?

Yep. The 4k players have a model # starting with ubd
