I don't have hands-on experience with Sony, but the UBP-800 and UBP-1000 both claim to be able to play the format. Problem there is I'm willing to bet the farm there's an egregious amount of oversampling or compression going on in the player's internal DAC, and from what I can see, getting an unmolested lossless surround signal off the player is near impossible, unless I'm misreading things. But it's Sony, so it will probably suck.
What I've been doing is using a standard external PC BR player and using JRiver as the software, then porting the signal off to a MiniDSP UDAC-8 through USB audio cabling. Then from there the RCA cables take it to my surround amp. The sound is passable but not excellent. I've read VLC can also play DVD-A discs but I haven't tried it yet. So it requires a PC to go this route...
