I'm not familiar with chrome needles - what differentiates them from normal steel ones? How do they last longer? Do they work better on some materials? What are the benefits of using them?

Jennifer23They last longer.  If you've heard of the Titanium-coated needles, these are the next step up -- originally designed for professional machine use.  If you go to Schmetz's website, you'll see a full description/chart of their entire lineup & the best use of each type.

CatMamaThanks for the info, CatMama. I checked them out on the Schmetz site, and it still looks like they're a step below the titanium ones to me. If you check Superior Threads website, their titanium needles are chrome plated first, then titanium coated. Their infographic in titanium needles compares them directly to chrome.
Granted, I'm taking Superior's word on their needles, but from past experience I have no reason to doubt them. This seems like an inferior (or at best comparable) product at a higher price. This doesn't seem like a good value proposition to me. Is there something that I'm missing?
