Thoughts on CA legality? Every CA-legal assisted opening knife I've seen has had some sort of bolster or protruding edge of the blade that you push on rather than a separate button.

dsmithMost likely not legal. However unless you run around waving the knife. I don't see the problem.

dsmithYes, this is California legal. However, some cops read into the statute things not there, so don't be stupid while carrying it, especially because of the "button" which is a safety lock, not a deployment method (but looks like a switchblade activation button). It has thumb studs, which are explicitly noted in PC 17235 (previously 653k):
PC 17235. "As used in this part, "switchblade knife" means a knife having the appearance of a pocketknife and includes a spring-blade knife, snap-blade knife, gravity knife, or any other similar type knife, the blade or blades of which are two or more inches in length and which can be released automatically by a flick of a button, pressure on the handle, flip of the wrist or other mechanical device, or is released by the weight of the blade or by any type of mechanism whatsoever. "Switchblade knife" does not include a knife that opens with one hand utilizing thumb pressure applied solely to the blade of the knife or a thumb stud attached to the blade, provided that the knife has a detent or other mechanism that provides resistance that must be overcome in opening the blade, or that biases the blade back toward its closed position."
If you are stopped and told to demonstrate function, you use the thumb stud to open it.
Personally, I can't recommend the knife as an EDC, due to the "switchblade" impression it gives. Taylor Brands (owner of the trademark of the defunct Schrade Corporation) made this to "look cool" rather than be practical.

beaconterraoneThanks, I didn't realize that was the safety either. Definitely makes it look more switchblade-y. I've never had a problem with my Kershaws but they mostly look like any other folding pocketknife.
