To the usual comment board trolls posting links to Joma and Amazon - those are different models. These are the Japanese made versions thus the difference in serial/reference number and the price premium.
If that doesn't matter to you, great, save ten bucks and get the other version. But don't act like Massdrop is trying to pull a fast one.

Vintage1982BenzFor example, here is one of the watches actually being offered and it is $10 more - https://www.jomashop.com/seiko-series-5-watch-snkk25j1.html?nosto=productpage-nosto-3

Janmo99Those are made in Malaysia, Taiwan or elsewhere and the ones being sold here are made in Japan (thus the J in the reference number).
I've personally never had any issues with Seikos made outside of Japan, but there is a prevailing sentiment among Seiko fans that the Japanese made watches are superior in quality and they usually command a 10-15% price premium as a result.

Vintage1982BenzThanks for the scolding... and point taken. I didn't notice these were the J models when I first saw the drop and have made that notation in my previous post. Whether or not the J model is worth it is a can of worms unto itself, with plenty of discussion elsewhere.
That said, I don't think its wrong to point out other purchase options and I'm not assuming Massdrop is "trying to pull a fast one" just because they don't have the best deal all the time. I've taken advantage of some great deals here, others have proven to be a wash in the end, and still others I've avoided because I was able to purchase for less elsewhere. Usually a quick search tells me if a deal is worth it for me, but I appreciate being made aware of my other buying options here.

Wasn't meant to be directed at you specifically. It just irks me when people drop links in to unrelated items (in this case they are closely related).
MD certainly can be thin on the details - case in point, pretty sure the lugs on this one are 20mm and not 18mm. You are absolutely correct in that it doesn't hurt to be aware of other options out there, if only more people would do their own research!

Vintage1982BenzThat's not the collective knowledge at WUS, which is: the J models are made in the same factories as the K models (malaysia, china, wherever) but the J models have a Japanese national as a supervisor. But don't take my word for it, check the many, many, many discussions at WUS. Bottom line, it is a commonly repeated error that the J models are made in Japan and the K models are not.

Vintage1982BenzI don't understand. Then why doesn't it say that in the description?
