No hacking and you can't wind the watch? What? This isn't good. It is very hard to get an auto to a fully wound spring, which is what winding the watch does. Plus, I like to easily set the seconds.
DogWillHuntNo, I have a very nice Sea Gull watch that is an auto, hacking and winding and keeps very good time. It cost a little more than this, not much.
Erik1What isn't true? You can't use the crown to wind the watch, which is very handy if you aren't going to wear it for a while, it isn't hackable, so you can't set the seconds.
jamato8What is not true is your claim that " It is very hard to get an auto to a fully wound spring...". The SKX winds very easily, so while hand winding is a nice feature to have it is in no way necessary to wind the watch.
jamato8Well I have a great deal of experience with many automatics from $100 chinese to over $1000 Swiss and have never had any difficulty in relying on the automatics to wind sufficiently to tell time and to make it over night and well into the next day without hand winding. Seiko movements are particularly good at this due to Seikos Magic Finger or Lever which winds much more efficiently than other autos. Autos are designed to wind the watch sufficienty that given normal movement of your arm so hand winding is not necessary and will fully wind. Most have a minimum of 38 hour power reserves so that if you wear the watch all day and take it off at night you could go over a fill day without eating and it would still run.
Erik1I have a Marathon Swiss made diver. Until I hand wound it, it would often not last over night. I called Marathon to ask them about this and they said that it required hand winding to get it to the full potential/reserve. Now I have no problem but my Sea Gull, though it can be wound also, works without having to manually wind it. Others also seem fine but for the most part I seem to get the best result by winding them. If you read on line about automatic, it is often said that they require winding to get to the full potential of the reserve. But I hear you and the winding mechanism of the Seiko seems from what you say and others, to do a good job.
