Serious question though, why do you continue to list MSRP for Seiko watches when literally no one ever sells them at MSRP? They seem to be just like Invicta where they set their MSRP so high so it looks like a deal since it's always at a steep "discount". I've noticed this trend of MSRP's being inflated by manufacturers to a ridiculous degree. Maybe Massdrop can switch over to a comparative system so deals' values are a little more transparent and less manipulative.

Russel730MSRP is MSRP IMO. If the manufacturer's have listed it as such nothing Massdrop can really do about that. Maybe Massdrop should list the street price to show people what the actual value is.

ChurchillWOh, I understand MSRP is set by the manufacturer. My question points to why does Massdrop use it as a selling tool when you never find Seikos prices anywhere near MSRP. There's been plenty of times where I've been interested in a product on Massdrop only to do 2 minutes of research to see that they aren't pricing any better then 10 other vendors. Why waste their time on arranging worthless drops? I'd rather they spend the effort finding drops that are of a better value then just taking every boring Seiko you can find everywhere else for a better price with quicker delivery times. For example, the recent Max Bill watches were great to see. A real value that you'll be challenged to find anywhere else. That's what I expect from Massdrop and why keep coming back.

Russel730Seiko is a manufacturer of quality watches available all over the world and under most sellers agreements the MSRP is usually mandatory. If retailers discount it then so be it but at least it's a guide as to the relative value of the watch. Max Bill is a design made by a Junghans (boutique watchmaker), Seiko is a massive global undertaking and manufactures affordable time pieces. I have Swiss and I have Japanese, two different products for 2 different reasons.

Russel730I've answered this comment quite a few times, so here's the answer I usually give:
There certainly can be a difference between MSRP (manufacturer's suggested retail price) and the "street price," so to speak, which is what you're referring to. For instance, the price of a Seiko would probably be different if you bought it in a nice jewelry store instead of online via Amazon. And since you and other folks here are pretty deal-saavy, you know where to look to get the best price (moreso than the average consumer). That said, the MSRP is a constant value whereas the cheapest online price can vary wildly, so for that reason we use the MSRP as a benchmark. Also, when you factor in different countries (we sell things all over the world), the concept of a 'best price' becomes impossible to ascertain. So MSRP, even though it's not always the cheapest price for everyone, is a constant.

beasI think you're missing my point. If Massdrop invests the time in more quality drops, such as the Max Bill drops, rather than these low value non-deals I think many of us would participate in drops on a more regular basis.

IanAndersonMaybe you have had to answer it a few times is because multiple people don't understand why we keep seing these "deals" on low value Seikos? I understand the difference between MSRP and "street value". What I don't understand is why we keep seeing these terrible deals clogging up the drops. I agree MSRP is MSRP. Massdrop has no control over that.
I bought a Seiko 5 three years ago at the same price they sell for "on sale" today. The price doesn't fluctuate that much, if at all.
I also wouldn't call your customer's "deal saavy" we just know how to spend more than 90 seconds on Google to check the current market value.

Russel730Speak for yourself, a low value non deal for you isn't the same for me.

beasIf I can find this at the same price with free shipping at 5 other sites it is a non deal, plain and simple. You want to waste money and wait a month longer than you should so Massdrop can make a few bucks that's your prerogative.

Russel730As I've mentioned before, there are other factors at play, the biggest being location - a huge percentage of our users live abroad, and the ability to get them at the same price you see may not exist.
I can tell you're very passionate about this and like I mentioned, you're welcome to email me so we can discuss it further. In the meantime, I want to keep this thread focused on the product, so let's move on.

Russel730Like Mr Anderson has said, location is a huge factor. I don't live in the States and this is a deal where I'm staying. The 29 people (at the time of writing) who have joined the drop also seem to be a testament to this. The world doesn't revolve around you lucky ones only you know?
That said, of course we all would want to have more awesome deals like the Max Bill one but I'm sure they're trying what they can!

Russel730Russel, there are different prices for watches with the same basic series or model number. Price depends on the watches movement as well as where it was manufactured. Some people buy watches based on perceived appeal (name, sparkle, whatever) Others buy on actual value while others buy based on the job the watch will do and it's proven longevity. I had not planned on giving any further thought but I wound up visiting one of the watch sites that I used to frequent and was immediately reminded of all of the variables in play. Mass Drop prices are reasonable for the models being sold. Do your due diligence and spend some time on some of the watch forums.

beasI like how you assume I know nothing about watches and have done no research. Just drop it old man. You can stop white knighting for Massdrop/ Seikos.

Russel730Snappy reply Russel, yes I am a very smart old man . I wasn't always though, I was once very brash and a whole lot younger and I didn't realize that with age comes experience and hopefully common sense. End of conversation!

IanAndersonWhat the hell are you talking about? You do not deliver in many countries, when i asked about shipping in Moldova , u said to use freight forwarders. I have bought 3 watches from your websites, and every time i have to sped extra for forwarding.
