PureSound168How to answer that question all by your self, in less than ten seconds: Do a frigging google search for "dark samurai" and see what the hell comes up!

PureSound168Assuming you got no hits/answers from the search (as I did), I'd guess that nickname isn't commonly used to describe this watch. Were you referring to the case color--steel vs black?

PureSound168Well--in that case, I'd check a few of the other links mentioning lower prices. No reason to pay extra.

PureSound168Continuing to look into this, I think the difference in finish is (darker or lighter) is the result of how the watch was photographed or the product shot chosen by a given site to display. It's a common issue with watch photography, especially where dials are concerned because the color depends so much on the angle of the light falling on the subject. Often the watch in-hand will look much less dramatic/bright then it appeared in the product shot (I've fallen victim to the phenomenon on more than one occasion ;- ). Best thing to do is compare A LOT of images from multiple sites and make an educated guess. For comparison, here's Seiko's link for this watch. They refer to the color as Grey Ion, rather than Black: https://seikousa.com/products/srpd09

RayFAll "black" Seikos are "ion-plated," hence the glossy finish that photographs differently. They are not PVD or DLC. The dials have been around for a while, With the color grading darker as you go from the top to the bottom of the dial to simulate the water as it gets deeper. "Save the Ocean" dials are also available i SS. On another note, I have three turtles; black, blue, and gray, as well as three Samurais; black, blue, and orange. I have no issues with the quality of fit, finish, or the bracelet on any of them. I do find the Turtles hug my wide , flat wrist better than the Sammies, and the new generation of Samurais, as nice as they are, still make me wish that I had kept one of the 3 or 4 blue titanium ones that passed through my hands back when they came out.

MrBoots As much as I liked the idea of owning a Samurai, in practice it's probably on of my least worn watches. Given the choice between it and the Turtle lying next to it, the Turtle always seems to win out. Hard to say why, but I've always been annoyed with the guy at Seiko who decided not to add the Day complication! If I ever catch up with him, I'm definitely going to give him a piece of my mind!
