Aw dang it. It looks like my order will arrive later than scheduled which was already 2 days later than the first recipients. Fortunately, my father's birthday is not for another week so I am in no real hurry to receive my SARB033. I just need to receive it with enough to size it correctly before wrapping his gift.
However, given that I have to pay the California sales tax and still receive orders days late (in San Francisco where Massdrop appears to be headquartered no less!) it makes me hesitant about future purchases where timing is of issue and the volume-discounted pricing still puts me at a disadvantage. I still support what Massdrop is doing but I will be more mindful of such factors before committing to another drop.

MrJamesDuffyHi @MrJamesDuffy - ever since you left this comment, i've periodically checked up on your delivery. Looks like it was delivered on the 29th, so hopefully that still gives you sufficient time to size it in time for your dad!
Regarding the fulfillment time - DHL usually takes around 4 business days to deliver coast to coast. Your fulfillment time was indeed a bit late at 6 business days. So yes, your particular package was delivered 2 days later than some other California orders. However, from our end, we listed the estimated ship date as April 22 and we ended up shipping out a day earlier on April 21. The DHL portion of fulfillment was out of our hands and sometimes minor hiccups happen.
Regarding California state sales tax, here is an explanation: https://helpdesk.massdrop.com/hc/en-us/articles/216145398-Explanation-of-Sales-Tax
The point of this entire message is to say that we do care about shipping times and we're taking this all into consideration when we decide which courier to partner with. We're constantly negotiating for better bulk rates with different couriers so we can ultimately pass on the savings to you guys and provide the best possible experience.

ChristopherJThanks for the response and my apologies for calling you out publically, albeit politely. I get where you guys are coming at. I will check the mailroom shortly. The timing of this drop only became particularly sensitive this week and knowing you guys are located nearby just added another itch in my head about it. The sales tax applies for any other online purchase (when the vendor is on the up-and-up) but it really does eat up most of the discount from your otherwise great pricing. Add that with the long delivery time (versus free 4-day shipping for most JDM watches from overseas), it adds another wrinkle to my decision to join a drop that I need to consider. I'm almost hoping the watch watch will need repair in less than a year so I can get all the value I can out of the warranty and customer support! (Okay, not really but you get my point.)
UPDATE: I received the watch and it looks great. I even remembered to bring my watch tools to work and can resize it in time to gift to my father tonight at an early birthday dinner. Thanks!

it-manSeiya Japan is reliable, but as you see MD offers a much better deal for those in the USA.

payodpandaYep. Bought the SARB017 off Massdrop and Seiya-one was a gift-and the one from Seiya made it here in 5 days, which includes clearing customs. Massdrop shipping through DHL took 7 days. Also, I had a question about the SARB and Seiya emailed me back within hours with a personally made YouTube video with a demonstration. Massdrop only contacted me back after I discussed initiating a chargeback with my bank because I hadn't received proper shipping info. Massdrop shipping and customer service is terrible.

HaffHahaha, I agree. Last I interacted with support was about the 017 too, back in June or July 2015 I think. But after they recognized / acknowledged my email everything went really smooth, even when I contacted them after two months about it they responded within a day. They did say they were trying to improve, though. And, FWIW, even though I've gone through the frustration of reaaallyy slow response times and have questioned support, fact is that my concerns have always been taken care of.
Whether the long waiting / shipping times and slower customer support response times are worth the money you save is completely up to you. I prefer Amazon for a lot of my purchases for this reason, but for things I don't really *need* need I usually end up buying at MD. :)
