What's the distinction that allows you to tell that its made in Japan? The Amazon one is priced at $139.99 and has the same movement.

ISkyIMy comment applies to the drop from several months ago when Massdrop was offering the SNZF17J1 which is a “Made in Japan” version for Japanese domestic consumption. Yes, the movement is the same but the SNZF17K1 is apparently ”Made in Malaysia” and is for worldwide export. Admittedly there is some controversy as to whether or not it makes a material difference. It may be a distinction without a difference. However, the SNZF17J1 is currently selling for $186 on Amazon while the SNZF17K1 is selling for $139 although Amazon does not include the K1 designation but a search for SNZF17J1 will return a higher priced “Made in Japan” import version on Amazon. Notice too that the J2 version even with the rubber strap here is $20 more than even the K1 version with the stainless steel bracelet. The J1 and K1 designations at the end of the model number as well as tiny print near the 6 o’clock position that says either Japan or Malaysia are the only visible differences that indicate country of assembly or for which market the product is intended. Like I said, it may be a distinction without a difference. Again, J indicates it is for the Japanese domestic market and is assembled in Japan while K is assembled in Malaysia and is for the rest of the world. The alternate language on the day of the week dial of the J version may also be different for the Japanese market. I have since purchased the K1 version myselfand am perfectly satisfied with it. The 1 suffix here denotes stainless steel bracelet and the 2 suffix denotes rubber strap which should also be taken into consideration when comparing prices. Seiko however is inconsistent in this designation as the SKX007K2 version comes with the bracelet and the K1 version comes with the rubber strap. Hope this clarifies things but it may raise more questions than it answers. The WatchUSeek forums are a good resource as well as WatchSleuth.com. I get lots of compliments on my K1 version and only I know the country of origin, so probably a distinction without a difference. 😉

Thanks for the detail reply. Didn't know Massdrop got the Japanese version in the last drop.

ISkyINo problem. You can opt for the Japanese version in this drop too but only with the rubber strap and it’s still $20 more than the K1 version with the bracelet. The last drop had a J1 version with bracelet but it sold out before I could snag one.
