Nice watch with an out dated movement. No Hacking or winding and dont expect great time keeping as well. Shame as its a nice watch but lacks any heart.

MTimeAs a watchmaker I have to ask, how much do you really expect for $125? It is a good price for an in-house auto. It is capable of being regulated to be very accurate. As for the handwinding and hacking, yes it would be nice but can't really be expected at this price range. Did you know that the legendary El Primero, that was used in Rolex and is at Zenith, isn't a hacking movement either?

MTimeyes, the 7S26 and variants are showing their age - still workhorses though - i much prefer the ability to also hand wind - and you can somewhat 'hack' the 7S26 through a time-set technique (though not generally recommended)... i've been able to adjust one of my 7S26 watches to +/- 5 spd ... i'd like to see Seiko move all the 5s to the 4R36... it will happen eventually...

MTimeyou're silly. What has no hacking or winding got to do with anything? I have 2x watches with 7s26/7s36 watches and they keep better time than eta 2824.
Hand-winding is bad - especially on a screw down crown watch (this watch isn't screwdown - but a lot of divers are). When you have to undo the screw down crown to hand wind it will eventually wear out the threads. You're better off getting a cheap watch winder for that.

linux_authorAgreed, love to see it with a 4R variant. I have adjusted the 7S36 to within 7 seconds a day but its a chore.

TigerUKSilly? Well maybe but what is silly is sticking a watch in a winder and adding premature wear on a movement. Screwing down a crown is no big deal and cheaper to fix than a movement overhaul because you didnt want to wind it. Regulating the 7S Movement is too tricky and a shot in the dark as well.

MTimewear? I had my seiko monster for 5 years. It got used and abused and ewore it as a beater. Watch dropped from 1.2m to a concrete floor and messed the movement up.. I got a new movement fitted with labour cost me £50. You shouldn't worry about wear on a cheap movement, it's not a rolex, it's not going to cost you £1000 to service it when it goes out of accuracy.
Finally you dont need to put all your watches on the winder, just your most commonly worn watches. They dont take much to wind - just 10 seconds of flicking your wrist to get them going.
In any case, this is the best movement you can get for the price point. You can put a hacking winding movement on a watch but that would add $60 to the price tag (cheapest 4r36 SEIKO WATCH). Or you can got eta 2824 and then you'll looked at a $400 starting price for the watch.

TigerUKCant disagree on the toughness of Monsters as i have had 3 in the past, Great watch! I still say the price for this is a little high as you can now get many new Seiko 5s with the 4r36 movement now for roughly the same price or a little more. Maybe so at the 400 Dollar price point but unlike Seiko you would get Sapphire crystal and and higher beat rate movement for the same money as say, a Seiko Sumo which for the price shouldnt be fitted with Hardlex and falls short in the bracelet clasp, basic at best as Seiko often does with certain models and what you get for the money.

MTimeIt's a 130 dollar watch that looks great, I doubt you need hacking unless you are in the military and if you move your wrist it handles the winding. The Seiko 7s36 is a solid workhorse that is both classic and dependable.
