Just getting into headphones. Only had sony mdr-v6 for years, until jack wear & tear cut L side input.
Anyway as a replacement I got shp9500s, and although they do sound good, I don't guess I have a critical enough ear to say how or even if they're better, and that's between open & closed headphones.
I do have a certain opinion in comfort, to me- i notice the shp9500's are a few ounces heavier, the mesh fabric pad covering are a little more annoying, and in its smallest setting, they are still a half click too large for me. I'm looking at either buying the housing & replacement pads on those, or for not much more dumping them for these 579's... my question is WILL the 579's be a significant upgrade in comfort? All the warm/bright soundstage/clarity/separation etc. is over my head. I don't know what I'm listening to. THey all sound good. But if these senns are going to be more comfortable out of the box, I'd rather go that route.
Thoughts.

JustinHoodI don't have the 579s but I do have the 598s and they are the most comfortable headphones I have ever worn. Ive had my 598s for 4 years now they still sound amazing and well worth the money. The bass is supposibly better on these than the 598s I have.

JustinHoodI have the 599 (the big brother to the 579) any they are very comfortable. I use them as my primary headphones on my computer for streaming and gaming so I wear them for several hours a day and have never felt any kind of discomfort. Sometimes I even forget I'm wearing them. And as for sound, I've never heard better headphones. The open back really makes the sound seem as though its coming from the room, not from two speakers sitting on your ear (which helps to make you forget your wearing them. The one down side is that because of the open back there will be sound leakage, both in and out. Other than that I have absolutely loved these headphones and I highly recommend you give them a try, especially at this price.

JustinHoodI've had the 579s and only returned them because $179 wasn't a reasonable price for the upgrade over the 558s. I've worn both for entire work days (8 to 10 hours) without discomfort.
The only time they get a little bad is over a long period of time and your face oils build up a bit in the velour. However, some massaging, warm water, and dish soup fixes that, plus the pads are replaceable (at least more easily than the shp9500).
I guess what I'm saying is yes, these are very comfortable.
