I still have these, bought them used for a wee bit less than $199, and I don't use them enough -- very detailed, easy to drive, and I definitely make use of the very useful bass dial which can help add some heft to thin recordings. Sometimes, though, they do get really close to being a little too trebly -- and adding bass with the dial doesn't really change that, which is actually good, but I sometimes wish it had a treble dial, too. :D

I got a pair from Circuit City on Amazon back in April 2019 for $219.00. They are legit. I did gift them away months later, as I didn't like their tonality. They do have $500 detail retrieval, but are way too shouty for my liking. The bass knob is cool, but is too loose and moves when laying down, plus I don't like the type of bass they produce. Too light at minimum setting, and starts sounding disconnected from everything else when increased. They're heavy, too, and look nicely built.

Good catch on the seller! Circuit City 4 life lol. It blows my mind when Drop just sells things at the same/higher price than elsewhere considering their shipping is usually measured in months instead of days and their return policy sucks. Imo Drop's model is only justified when there's a major savings over other sites. Otherwise you're rewarding Drop for making YOU assume all risks from a purchase. They need to offer something to sweeten the pot or it's just a way for us to fund their operating costs Kickstarter-style but without the product exclusivity.

how do these compare to HD600 and 650?

rumata13Very different use case. These are more of a portable oriented design, they aren't really in the same league as the HD600/650. They're a good alternative to the Momentum/HD1s, or ATH-M50x/MSR7, but neither of those compete with the HD600/650 either. However, the HD600/650 aren't something you'll take on an airplane, subway or bus.

rumata13I owned these some time ago and to me they have their own sound. I thought they were much better balanced and not as midrange focused as the 6XX series of headphones. The HD630VB’s sound leans more towards the neutral tuning of the HD600’s than they do towards the warm sound of the HD650’s. I liked them better than both honestly. The variable bass is subtle but audible and it doesn’t distort the drivers. At this price, these are hard to beat in my opinion.

Listening to mine right now (did not buy them through the drop, as I didn't know Massdrop existed until long after the drop). If they ever come back, there are a number of reasons to like or dislike them, but "gimmicky" seems unfair. Yes, the bass is adjustable, but it isn't a simple "boost" on/off, and it is completely passive.
They are quite comfortable (I've gone 6+ hours with them at one sitting more than once) and while the fixed cable might be problematic, it accommodates the variable bass and I suspect this would be more difficult to implement with detachable cables. As to replacing the cable, if necessary, there is a YouTube video demonstrating how easy it is to do (and the cable itself is not all that expensive--certainly less than many aftermarket cables for headphones and other audio gear).
Are they the best headphones I've ever heard? Of course not. But (especially at the low price I paid for the floor demo model) they are quite nice and in situations where closed-back phones are required (as is often the case for me in libraries or to "tune out" outside distractions at home), only headphones several hundred dollars more expensive (than what I paid, not necessarily retail) offered equal, or better, performance. And with the very eclectic variety of music I listen to (from 70s prog rock, to Ella Fitzgerald, to obscure 20th century classical quartets, to bluegrass...), the variable bass tuning is nice to have.
I am looking forward to my first pair of open-back Sennheisers (the 58X that I ordered for a June delivery) to compare. Perhaps I'll no longer be impressed with my 630VBs after that (they will have cost me about the same after conversion of US to CDN dollars), though I suspect I will like each for different purposes.

OvationNearly a year later and they’re still going strong. Have traveled across North America and to six European countries with them. Zero quality issues and still sound great. No regrets at all about purchasing them. My HD58X and HD6XX are my go to at home (I’ve come to prefer the open back design) but for travel or situations where open back is not a good idea, the 630VBs fit the bill nicely.

My girlfriend has these and the cable is already starting to short after about 6 months of use, they look pristine otherwise. I use HD700s for my computer and they don't move except maybe 6 inches a day on my desk to my head. Those cables just shorted after about 14 months (and I replaced the cable for about 30 bucks, but an OEM cable costs about 190USD).
So we called Sennheiser to ask how much it would be to have them serviced and the cable replaced (for these HD630VBs) and they told us about 210USD with shipping/tax.
Don't buy these. They sound incredible, the variable bass is great for bassheads (I am not, girlfriend is). The build is incredible but the fixed cable.... I don't know what Sennheiser was thinking.

So, AKG K267 Tiesto with a mic and built by Sennheiser. I suppose AKG did leave a gap when the stopped making the K267 though...

HeeftyTry $270. I've never seen an ass on my favorite cans either. Whether Tiesto had a hand in designing them or not, you can't argue with results and I really don't care if they sound good. K267 are fabulous cans and far more versatile than anything else I've come across. I'm guessing these Senn cans would be similarly spectacular, except for the Senn veil and the fact that cable is not removable.
Furthermore, I think there might be some EDM fans that would take umbrage with your statement since he's pretty much the most popular DJ on the planet. Please keep your ignorant opinions to yourself. That or leave your basement from time to time and learn that you're not the only person on the planet.
