Which headphones of Drop's currently available?
I have some rewards points to burn but there's no obviously good options on Drop right now for headphones Contenders Ultrasone - maybe? I don't own any Ultrasones, so curious. Looks like garbage travel headphone which could be useful also. Beyerdynamic DT990 Pro. - Maybe? I have the DT 880 Good price point, really uncomfortable headphones but could be interesting to try the upgraded version. E-MU - strong contender but $400 is a bad price point for what it is. Which of the above would you choose and why? Nothing else on Drop is relevant to my interests, because Already own 6xx 820 800 s Ether cx Garbage / Consumer grade Meze 99 - garbage bass canons, hard pass No gaming headphones obviously Sennheiser wireless - no to wireless/bluetooth Hifiman - I have 2 of drop hifimans and they make really bad cheap shit on Drop, hard pass on HE-R7DX Aeon - I own the closed, Drop refuses to address #padgate so no reason to buy open Beyerdynamic 177x - wireless, nope Too similar 8x / 560s...

I am guessing the warenty is the issue but they had a great deal on the T1s which I got.
@Delete There are lots of reasons why people want expensive end cans who aren't into perfect audio reproduction. I am interested in the 650's despite having AKG 701s and the Beyer T1s both with are much more accurate. I have heard the 650s and they are really smooth and rich sounding and are FAR from accurate but the sound is very fun to listen to when you are in the mood for it. No one would buy tube amps if they were only interested in accurate reproduction. People what what they want and how they want it to sound. The 650s are fun and so are the T1s and the HD800s. If you only want accurate sound look at the latter too. But these are great fun cans and probably the least accurate headphones (from true highend manufactures i.e not skullcandy, beats, etc) in this price range.
Also, I'd say the K701 and T1 are NOT "far more accurate" than the HD650. The K701 is brighter and leaner than neutral, and the T1's have incredibly peaky and uneven frequency response (seriously, the DT880's objectively measure better than the T1's). While the HD650 is on the darker side of neutral and don't have Stax/HD800-like resolving ability, they commit fewer errors than almost any headphone out there. The HD600/HD650 are at the precipice of diminishing returns.
I've lived with flagships for years (HD800, LCD-2, ESP-950, most recently the LCD-X) and have decided to "move down" to an HD650 + Bottlehead Crack (or Schiit Vali) rig. I get just as much (if not more) enjoyment out of a HD600/650 + Crack rig than I do on a rig costing 5-10x as much.
@questhate: "uneven frequency response" - hah!
Either way I said the 650s are more fun many times that other headphoens. Either way the best headphone is the one you like best, though I find it hard to believe anyone would have HD800s, and LCD2/X and downgrade to ONLY the HD650s as you have suggested. That is just silly as they are all very different headphones and to pretend that one will satisfy your needs when your looking at having many high end cans does not make sense but again the best headphones are the ones you like the best
I don't think you know what your talking about., like you said above, you are only guessing. You sound silly and make zero sense.
Regarding comments about the T1 -- I was simply offering a counterpoint to your assertion that they are "much more accurate" than the HD650. I owned the T1 as well a couple of years ago and they did not last long before they were sold. The performance was simply not in line with other flagships, much less many mid-fi phones. As with all in this hobby, IMHO, YMMV. But no one has to take my word for it, just looked at all of the measurements on sites like Innerfidelity and Changstar. Look at the frequency response, harmonic distortion, square wave response and CSD measurements, and then compare them to even "mid-fi" phones like the DT880 or HD6xx. Not to mention the notoriously bad QC. I hope you got a great deal on the T1's. Personally, I wouldn't pay $200 for them.
@jerseyboy You may have been right abut the 272 deal. I had heard about it and used it as a price reference. I did not know it went very quickly thank you for the info
I agree with you with regards to the K701-- I had K702s. Very neutral, a bit lacking in bass (though the bass they had sounded beautiful). And they had absolutely BEAUTIFUL soundstage going for them. But the K701/2 wasn't very fun... "too" neutral IMO. Worked well for classical and jazz, and super great for acoustic/singer-songwriter, but was lackluster for rock and electronic.
Looking forward to going back to a set of Senn's (the brand that started my audiophile quest many years ago), and matching these 650s up with some tubes.
