I have to say, this all MSRP bull is getting old, people are starting to get frustrated. i can see why companies don't want to throw every product they have with big discounts to not damage the real MSRP of their products, and maybe there's more to it like pressure from the big guns not to let the prices drop heavily. maybe that's why we always seeing the same products over and over again, or why most drops suggestion with many votes is going nowhere, or things like this "drop" when the product real cost is around 200~250 bucks and here it is suddenly a $450 MSRP product.
My advice for you guys is - because you already have everything in order, with this super nice website and discussion forums like no other, and an excellent shipping system, start selling products also without drops, just keep the prices fair and competitive and provide good service. of course keep doing some truly legit drops like the TH-X00 or the K7XX or other product with some real discounts like you have now and then. don't limit yourself most of the time only to drops, i know this thing is called massdrop, but it's becoming frustrating to see almost always the same stuff over and over again.

LIBY555Meh. MD is not doing anything differently than any other retailer. It is a common place marketing tactic. When was the last time anyone (not ignorant or filthy rich) paid full MSRP on a car, cellphone, clothing, etc? I just think how it is presented here that's causing everyone's attention bias to ping.
LxJLthrI wish they would simply get rid of it all together just clogs the discussion with off prodcut posts. As you indicated paying MSRP is not the norm with luxury (as in unnecessary for life) goods. I can name 1 headphone in my entire collection where I paid MSRP and not a single piece of electronics other than my Schiit Lyr did I pay MSRP. It's the Manufacturers Suggested Retail Price. It's not the manufacturers wholesale price which is what the distributors/retailers pay for the product. After they've received the product it's up to the distributor/retailer to set the price. Some prices cannot be legally advertised due to contract (add to cart specials work around this) and selling "too low" will lead to the manufacturer/distributor "cutting off" the offending retailers supply of new product. Everyone gets worked up over this but there is a very important distinction between what Massdrop/Most retailers do with MSRP and what Kohls did with "sales." The big difference other than first being legal and the latter... eh not so much, is Massdrop is not claiming they have sold it at that price nor that it actually has a street price of $449.95. They are claiming that the manufacturer suggests retailers sell this at $449.95 which IS the MSRP of this IEM. The Sennheiser Website agrees with them: https://en-us.sennheiser.com/earphones-high-end-hifi-stereo-passive-noise-reduction-ie-80
I broke my rule about posting in these threads sooooo... mic drop!

LIBY555Hahaha I completely agree...but as far as 1st world problems go, there are way bigger issues to worry about (like what happened on latest episode of Kardashions! LOL JK JK). With modern connectivity, there is little excuse for lack of purchase decision research. But yeah, we digress. It is what it is sometimes.
