Can someone recommend replacement cables for the ie8? Love the sound but not so much the stock cable (my RHA’s MA750 stock cables are soft/high quality). I’d like to have something lime that for my ie8’s.
Thanks
I just got mine and they sound absolutely beautiful out of the box! They have surprised me in every song I listen to due to its incredible soundstage and separation. They sound so rich, so sweet and so clear.
I just LOVE them!

I'm totally with you bud..I have a few of the Massdrop-released mid-fi-ish headphones, specifically really enjoying the hd6xx as well as the he4xx lately, but this is my first venture into this range of IEMs and have absolutely been nothing short of stunning. The detail they provide while managing to avoid any harshness or sibilance, their fantastic instrument separation, wide and lush soundstage, dynamic quick and satisfying (and adjustable) lows, and their still intimate and forward presentation of vocals and the mids to upper-mids in general has me appreciating new details in music I thought I was already intimately acquainted with. It's given a whole new life to a lot of music I hadn't listened to in quite a while, as well as brought to me a new level of appreciation as to what a properly built and tuned set of IEMs can sound like!
I find myself digging up as many albums as I can find in order to listen for new tracks or details within a specific track that are revealed by these, much the way I found myself obsessing with listening to anything and everything I could get my hands on when I picked up the hd6xx's. And then all the more so when I listen to them with different equipment as they scale brilliantly with different amp/dac setups. I have not been this pleased overall with any IEMs before..I've never had a pair I've enjoyed enough to reach for on a regular basis, even when having the choice of them or any full-sized over-ear phones I own. Bottom line is that these are an absolute steal in my opinon, and sound positively fantastic for the going price of the drop ($129.99 USD I believe) and I would definitely appreciate and enjoy them even if they were in a higher price tier than they were. Very well-rounded set of IEMs! Thanks Massdrop (and others who vouched for them as well)!
oh so these are better than the IE80???
Got mine today! Sound lovely out of the box. StI’ll need to put in more time on them and play with the tips amd bass nob. I will compare them to my LZ A4s.
they look higher quality then in the photos, as well as feeling very comfortable. So far very pleased.
Just received update these were canceled. Pretty disappointed, and I passed on a few other IEMs waiting for these. Is this common? Any justification?

Thanks, I missed the first email (must have gotten filtered), but they canceled it on December 27th. Apparently the item was backordered and they couldn't guarantee there would be more made. They gave me a $10 coupon for another drop.
I get this service has its benefits and downsides, but this one kinda stung. I passed on a pretty good deal for a Shure SE535 ($300) figuring these would suit me. I think this drop had a limit attached to it, which is why I figured it was a pretty safe bet. Definitely would be cautious about going in on another drop with a long expected wait.
ThisIsntSteve
That really sucks! And I know saying sorry will not fix anything but hopefully this deal can come back pretty soon (I requested it to bump-up the amount of people interested).
Otherwise, I really hope that you can get the SE535 for the $300 at some point, which was most definitely a good deal!
Cheers!
Why are the controls so close to the earbud? Seems like it would be uncomfy
Hortm
I compared to four other in line control IEMs I own, and they are all within 1 inch of each other. The ie80i is actually the farthest away of the four I own. You might have an issue with in line controls on IEMs in general, as this is a good length.
Just received mine. Superb sound. Very happy with my purchase.
Gear tested on: iFI iDSD (IEMatch on) headphone amp & DAC iPhone 7
This unit is certainly bass heavy, but by no means overly so.
Received mine yesterday in Canada. I didnt pay any duties or taxes, surprised.
I wonder if these sold out. I thought for sure I had until tomorrow to join. Oh well, shouldn't have thought about it too much.
Dragon13
same here.... drop quested
Dragon13
Same here :(
Does anyone know if these will retain full iOS functionality when used with the Apple 3.5mm/Lighting bolt adaptor as included with newer Apple phones?
StainlessOnly
They do, yes.
Satsugai
Thanks kindly for the response Satsugai, truly appreciated. It would have been nice however if someone from Massdrop would have responded when the drop was still active truthfully, but that ship has already sailed. I would truly love to spend some money with Massdrop, but they seem none to interested. ces't la vie.
You however, please enjoy these IEMs, and a very Happy Holidays and Merry Christmas
IE8 is very muddy IMO even if they are for bass lover Plus, IE8 is very old by now

i used them for half a year when my original etymotic ER4S was broken. I guess i just don't like the IE8's sound signature and it's just like how some people wouldn't like the etymotic sound signature either.
but IMO there are better earphones out there in the market that combines better value + decent soundstage + nice mids with much better detail retrieval.

When you compare these with the IE80, how do they sound? Is the IE80 significantly better?
ship to asia plzzzzz
I will try to answer some of the questions in this thread since I have owned the IE8 and currently use the IE80.
For starters, the IE8 was Sennheiser's top-of-the line IEM back in its day. They used to sell for $500USD. The IE8 will blow the doors off anything under $300 if you like bass. This drop is an amazing deal - I am buying a set just to keep around as a backup to my IE80.
The cable is replaceable and interchangeable with the IE80 cable. I buy IE8 replacement cables for my IE80 because the cable is softer and has less microphonics issues. If you want a cable with no controls the standard IE8 replacements are available for ~ $30 from Sennheiser. The cable is straight but because of the IE8 design, you have to wear the cable over and behind the ear. The IE8/IE80 come with a pair of hearhooks that snap onto the cable if you want a forced bend but I have never used them.
Isolation is slightly better on the IE8 than the IE80 - up to 26db, which is very good.
The IE8 has the typical Sennheiser house sound. Mid-bass hump with neutral mids and slightly rolled off highs. If you have heard and like the HD580/600/650 headphones then you will like the IE8. The rolled off highs make for less fatiguing long listening sessions. The detail is there, but there is no harshness. There is a bass tuning screw and even when on its lowest setting the bass is pretty much unbelievable. If you are a basshead you will LOVE these. It's not a flabby bass, but a controlled tight thumping bass. Soundstage is also very good for an IEM. The IE80 sounds even better to me. Less mid-bass hump and more very deep bass. Much faster drivers with better mid-range and soundstage. IE80 have slightly better highs than the IE8.
Many different tips come with the IE8 but personally I did not like any of them. You must have a good seal to get the full bass impact. I personally use Comply foamies or UE SuperFi memory foam tips. The memory foam gives me a super tight seal and great isolation from the noisy train ride on my commute.

Sorry, have not tried the Momentum. I see a $129 wired momentum and a $280 wireless version. In my experience lower end Sennheiser IEMs are nowhere near as good as the IE8/IE80. I listen to a lot of female jazz vocals and flat midrange is critical for this. Female vocals sound almost the same to me on the IE80 as the HD600 headphones or my high-end speakers which is very rare for IEMs. I've heard many IEMs at head-fi meets and no IEMs I have heard are better, but don't forget this is very subjective.
If you have heard HD600 I would consider those as the closest to IE80 with even more pronounced bass on the IE80. Maybe look for a store them has HD600 or HD580 on demo. They are very popular.

oh I bought the Sennheiser HD6XX with June Drop and OMG, Without any amp or dac just from my galaxy note 5, they sound absolutely amazing. The base is fantastic. It will take me a little while but I am planning to get Schiit Stack for it. I can't wait how much the sound will be improved with the Schitt. I hear so many great things about the HD600. Never heard it but read so many reviews and if the IE80 comes close to the HD600, it is really worth every penny. Makes me wonder, how much better would the audio be with the likes of IE 800s and Shure 845? Ever had used those before?
it can't be sent to taiwan...please :)
Love to get a set of these, perhaps an international drop next time around?
this vs RHAT20 vs Logitech ue900s?
Do these have a proprietary connector or is it MMCX?
Are these iOS mic cables not compatible with Android? I'm bummed if so as I have a Google pixel XL1 and use my phone to make calls alot while traveling. I like to leave my earphones on even when taking calls. Always have to hold the phone near my mouth when I'm using headphones. Hoping to upgrade to headphones with a mic. TIA
CamboDude
FWIW, I have no experience with this particular cable, but with other 'iOS' cables I've used on my P1XL and other Android phones the mic and answer/end call buttons usually work but not the volume control/skip track buttons.
pntless
Thanks man! I'm in then!
Can anyone attest to the sound isolation of these IEMs?
Ship to Germany :( pleaaaase
Are these sourced from Sennheiser? There are a ton of problems w fakes of the ie8. If they are, I'd expect a two-year warranty.
Macattack
Although I understand your concern based on proven facts, I honestly don't think Massdrop would sell fake products, specially from a collaborator they have had much success with.
Probably these are part of an old stock Sennheiser had, being the case that this model is already discontinued. (Hence probably the reason why no warranty is included).
I still joined the drop with high hopes. These will be my first High End IEMs :)
Nice in for one. Waiting for IE8 or 80 a while. Also bought the 1 more triple. I believe IE8i is good for classic. Not saying it’s bad for pop, I will keep both at this time
JohnnyCh
Let me know how those two compares? Thank You
JohnnyCh
Let me know how you think these two compare as well.
This or Ultimate Ears UE900s? I have joined UE900s drop recently, I am curious to hear some comparison.

That i do not know because i have not tried the IE80s but i can imagine that they are probably essentially the same since physical design is similar
Chaturanga
IE8i is much better. I am using IE8i everyday. Now, it has about 200+ hours.
Worth the price, it’s nice deal!
We need a proxy for this! I was so happy seeing this come up only to find it won't ship to Aus. Any chance international shipping might happen?
Kruz
I feel you, can anyone help for non-US members?
Kruz
Australia Post has you covered, they have a service called ShopMate.

Is the standard cable curved for hooking around the ear or is it a standard straight cable? It says it comes with ear hooks but pictures make it seem like the cable is already curved for wrapping around ear.
Is it worth it being the ie8 and not ie80?
wayfarerway
They're basically identical. Except this is much less expensive.
wayfarerway
ie80 has slightly less midbass and more subbass presence than the ie8 but given the price difference $130 is a very good price for the IE8
No international shipping? :(
This vs. the other IEMs at similar price points on Massdrop? such as the mee pinnacle
No warranty period??

Oh.. didn't know that. Thanks man.
dunaj
No problem dude!
At first blush this seems like a good deal. If anyone has these, can you give your thoughts on how these sound? I am expecting there to be a catch or something here

It's an ie8 not Ie80
gabrielvis
It doesn't matter they're identical. Also this is an insanely good deal. These used to run in the 4-500$ range. A bit on the bass'y side from neutral.
Can the IE8i be easily driven by a smartphone?

I have both so I can actually speak to this. I prefer this to the 1More triple quite a bit. The bass is deeper and stronger and there's greater cohesion throughout the spectrum. I sort of view this as an unfair competition since the list price of each are vastly different (this is really a $300 IEM, the 1More is a $100 IEM). The 1More concept is actually decent and I like my Sony HBA-H3s (which also has 3 drivers with 1 dynamic and 2 BA) as much or more than the ie80s but they're discontinued.
luckywang
Thank you so much for your response! I know that comparing the 1More with these is quite unfair as they are lots of dollars away. (The actual reason why I was thinking on the 1More is due to the discount they have at Costco for $59.99 and the fact that I currently have the Dual Drivers and quite like them).
But I'm glad to know what your opinion is, specially being the owner of both. I think I will go with the IE8i for a real upgrade.
