I am thinking about getting this but I would like to go with mx clear switches instead which are not offered as an option in the drop. I see that I can buy switches on mechnaicalKeyboards . com but I see there are "plate mount" and "pcb mount". This would be my first DIY keyboard and I am not sure what is the difference between these, and which option would I need to be compatible with this kit.
zeltnerYou can get either, since you are going to use the plate (I assume) and the PCB has holes for the switch legs. However, do yourself a favor and get PCB mount switches. They will work on both in both situations, where with plate mount you must always have a plate. The PCB mount legs will provide you with a little more rigidness as well.
And as @KatzenKinder pointed out, you can just clip the legs if you find you don't like them or for some reason can't use them.

InanisThe real benefit to having PCB mount is that you can skip using a plate altogether. The major reason to do that is for ease of future tinkering, so that you can open switches whenever. That's not as big an issue with this plate, since it has the notches cut out. Right now, the only real reason to avoid using a plate is if you want to try using the GMK QMX dampening brackets (https://www.massdrop.com/buy/gmk-sound-dampening-brackets).

InanisThanks for the info I'll be going with the PCB mounts if I go this route. Still deciding if I should grab this or just go with a pok3r with clears on it already. This will be my first 60% board so I am curious how the programmability will differ between this and the pok3r?

zeltnerThis keyboard's layout is completely programmable, with no limit to the number of layers you can program: "Fully programmable via TMK firmware with infinite layers" <-- from the drop description. My understanding is that the Pok3r offers 3 layers (2-4) that you can program, and DIP switches. But I think the Pok3r's programmability is aimed more at setting up macros -- I don't have one, so I can't really speak to it in depth, only from what I've read. Here's a good review on the Pok3r: https://rhinofeed.com/vortex-pok3r-review/.

K-Boti guess I more curious about how the programming is done between the two. From what I have read on the poker I can put the board into programming mode to set my layers up. does the tmk firmware work like this as well? Or do I have to edit the files and flash the firmware to the keyboard to set my layers up?

zeltnerPok3r is like programming your microwave oven.
TMK is programming in the C language.

zeltnerA0.C's answer is spot on.
So programming this board is essentially the latter of the two options you mentioned (edit files -> flash). Here's the repo: https://github.com/tmk/tmk_keyboard. Might also be helpful... this page is linked on the /r/mk wiki as an intro guide: http://blog.roastpotatoes.co/2015/03/30/introduction-to-the-tmk-firmware/.

K-BotOk cool. Thanks for the quick response's guys. C sounds way more fun then programming my microwave. I'm in. Hopefully it tips.

K-BotVinny Cordeiro, who designed the PCB, has his modified version for it here: https://github.com/VinnyCordeiro/tmk_keyboard/tree/master/keyboard/s60-x

A0.CPerfect, thanks for sharing. I was going to do some digging to find a fork of TMK for this keyboard. Exactly what I was looking for.
zeltnerI have a Pok3r (and a Poker 2, a GON, an Infinity and many others - I have a problem, clearly), and I can tell you beyond any shadow of a doubt that something with TMK firmware + a plate that allows removable switch tops is going to win out every single time. The reason is that at some point you are going to want to change something about that Pok3r, and it will be a chore and a half to accomplish. But that is exponentially easier if you have true programability and can mod the switches without soldering. Just my 2 cents.

InanisSo if this doesn't make it to 50 buyers where could I find a similar tmk board?
