Before ordering, I tried a sample with a spool I had received as part of Superior University. I did a straight stitch and then some decorative stitches. I had bottom line in the bobbin and size 100 Topstitch needle as Superior suggests. I lengthened the stitch in most cases and the simple ones worked best. It looked great. I make a lot of home dec and purses (with quilt leftovers) and think this will be great to add topstitching to EVERYTHING. I probably won't try it with digitized machine embroidery unless its just lines and I would slow it down. I also compared it with some hand embroidery I'm doing with #8 pearl cotton: Wonderfil Eleganza in a 70yd spool (@$5 ea.) I LUUV this thread because its cotton and variegated and has gorgeous color combinations. For hand embroidery, I will choose the #8 cotton Eleganza over the #12 polysester sew sassy - unless I need a particular color for some spot.

KarenfI have never used a 12 wt thread. Would you be able to clarify the type of thread you are using in the bobbin? I'd really like to get in on this drop.

jdizzle65after rereading Superior Threads' Thread "reference chart for home machines," I see that I used a lighter weight than recommended thread in the bobbin. The "Bottom Line" thread that I used is a 60 wt. polyester. Thread weight refers to the number of strands it takes to weigh a specific amount; therefore a higher "WT" usually means a thinner thread. Typical piecing weight would be 50 wt. for both bobbin and top threads. When you're doing decorative work, its typical to use a lighter weight thread in the bobbin because its the top thread you want to see. I think I would try the 30, 40 or 50 weight threads in the bobbin that Superior recommends next time I sew with the Sew Sassy. Any of those would still be "lighter weight" than the #12. Sulky also makes a 12 weight cotton thread on a spool and recommends a 90-100 size needle. Their chart does not suggest what bobbin thread to use with it.

KarenfThanks, Karen! I spent some time on the Superior web site the site and Dr. Bob's videos/blog are wonderful. The https://vw-superiorthreads.storage.googleapis.com/docs/home-machine-reference-guide.pdf recommends Masterpiece or Sew Fine for bobbin thread. I have Superior pre-wound paper bobbins and LOVE them on my vintage Pfaff 230 machine. I joined the drop and am looking forward to working with this thread.
