I need my kitchen knives to be dishwasher proof. I know not very good for some steels with the high temp and also over time some handles don't like it.
it-manWell, I'm fairly certain this is high carbon steel. So you don't want to put it in the washer. But then, you don't want to put any of you knives in the washer, the conditions in a washing machine are too harsh for your cutlery.
DarkingI know exactly what you mean. However the victorinox and wmf cutlery seem to take it without any issues, and we run our dishwasher always on the max cycle, which is 95 degrees Celsius on the final cycle
it-manis there a particular reason you need to run your knives through the dish washer? knives are incredibly easy to clean by hand all you have to do is clean off grime with a soapy sponge and then rinse with hot water afterwards you dry and put them away. it's much faster and leaves rooms for things that won't be damaged in your dishwasher
DarkingThese are VG-10 steel, which is a stainless variety, making them in theory dishwasher safe. I do not however see any reason why one would do that to a knife.
it-manI wouldn't put any good Japanese knives in the dishwasher... or really any knife that I actually cared about. If you really insist on putting your knives in the dishwasher, maybe just get something cheap.
it-manToo be blunt: if you're putting kitchen knives in the dishwasher: stick with cheap knives. These knives would be ruined by putting them in there. Not necessarily right away, of course, but sooner or later. These are knives capable of lasting a lifetime (or longer) with proper care and attention. Search for a video with Alton Brown for Shun Knives. He makes a pretty good case for never putting your knives in a dishwasher.
xen0blade:-) .... loved the "to be blunt..." start to your responce. I agree that it is not good for knives. My everyday knives seem to handle it fine though. I would never put my special knives through the dishwasher though ... given that with mine, the final rinse goes to 95 Degrees Celcius.
