Product Description
A unique spinner in every sense of the word, the Strobe Spinner from Shire Post Mint looks like a medieval coin—and once it gets spinning it puts its dark magic on display. Struck from solid copper or .999 silver, the coin features two sides: one with craggy recessed grooves like a Tetris board; the other with a starburst pattern radiating out from an eight-point center Read More

This is the droid I’ve been waiting for. I didn’t have the money the last couple of times.

Little package came today which was a little surprising because I wasn't expecting anything from massdrop.

Ah some silver and copper tops. Hand writing my name was a nice touch

So was the wax seal, I couldn't lift the wax up without damaging the paper though. Nothing written in the 'Date:' or 'By:' fields, not sure it there was supposed to be anything there or no.

A lot of cross proportional advertising along with the spinners themselves. Nothing in the 'certificate of authenticity, once again not sure if there is supposed to be anything there like an assey for the silver top.

Nice holders for the tops

Could be used to display them I'd imagine

The spinners in all their glory. Some scratches on them from the factory. The silver is thinner than the copper one.

Other side. Copper looks like it's already getting a patina

I really like them. Originally just opted for the silver but had to pick up the copper because it's a material I like and it's historiclly one of the major exports of my state. Out of the box with no previous experience I could get a few minutes of spin time. It's easier to spin with the strobe side up as it has more clearance than the other side.

In what way does a spinning top qualify as a piece of every day carry gear? Do you guys really load your pockets with spinning tops before heading out the door? This seems like hobby shop stuff and not everyday carry.

cbaratzI don't and never thought I would, but this thing looks so cool in action that I just might start.

cbaratzI imagine that some folks carry a type of toy with them too occupy them in a waiting room or something. I carry a book with me most days when I'm out doing errands, or have to commute somewhere on public transit.

Does this give the illusion under ghe naked eye, or do you have to film it with a phone?

K-ozDragonSince the top was designed to take advantage of the strobe effect, filming or viewing with a camera phone in bright light is ideal. You can see some of the patterns with the naked eye but it's blurred since eyes don't have frame rates. But if you have a strobe effect on a flashlight, you can see the effects well without a screen!

So I understand the silver coin spins up to 11~12 min.
How long is the copper one supposed to spin for?
SinoriProbably the same since there's only a 2 gram difference between them.

SinoriTypically they both spin for around 7 minutes on a good surface with a strong spin. 12 minutes was the longest spin that we've timed, spun on a convex mirror.

So... Massdrop lists an item whose value is key to its motion, but doesn't provide a video or gif or said motion... Sigh.. Here ya go... http://imgur.com/gallery/tVTW0qB

Is the silver any stronger than the copper? I'm asking because I know I'm going to accidentally throw it across the room several times and I want to know which one is going to take more damage from that.
Copper will also patina.

G_zimmerThe copper is slightly harder, but if you throw them across the room both of them will dent!
