I had a pair of these socks literally fall apart on me during a month long expedition in October in the adirondacks. I was not over using them, but would occasionally wear them as a vapor berrior for frozen boots etc. The interior waterproof lining is not even stitched in but instead is held to the fabric by an adhesive with a very short life span. Poorly designed and built product

I have a pair that I use daily in my commute by bicycle in the Pacific Northwest during this rainy Fall and Winter. They keep my feet dry. They are somewhat thick. Their ability to breathe is similar to Gore Tex. They are windproof, so they keep my feet warmer. Overall I recommend them. This is a very good price.

These socks are great!!!! I wore them during a spartan race, my feet were the only thing not soaked or mud covered.

I got on these as an impulse purchase. When they arrived, the first thing I did, obviously, was wear them in the shower to see how waterproof they were. They did alright I suppose. Water could be forced through, but only at quite high pressures. What made me a bit more concerned was that my toes got damp anyway from perspiration. Also, with the outer layer drenched, the feeling of squishing around in them was disconcerting and I could not actually tell if my feet were still dry. They were, but it was still an uncomfortable situation nevertheless. Hanging them dry took ages thanks to the waterproof membrane.
I've concluded that the best (and maybe only) use case for these socks would be to keep them in your pack in case you get your boots drenched. You can then swap out your wet socks for these and carry on with relatively dry feet.

More than a month to ship out?!?! That should absolutely have been listed in the product description. That is absolutely ridiculous. These socks are definitely going to be my last Massdrop purchase! No small discount is worth being lied to and waiting a month for the product to arrive.
steineyIt says estimated shipping right on the page, and yes, its around a month out.

I purchased these socks the last time they dropped and I feel it is necessary to warn buyers, they are not waterproof. If layered correctly they can supplement a water resistant system, but they do not work in the same way as a sealskinz competitor.

LukeDraconisShowers Pass targets their goods mostly to bicyclist (yes, I know there is a guy running in the video). I'm a big fan of SP and own three products from them. Thier stuff is pretty much boomproof for rain. I worked in Seattle so am familiar with the conditions. Honestly I don't see how this product would be good outside of an environment without constant rain. If I lived in Portland, Seattle, or London, maybe. I am also not a big fan of "waterproof" socks.

Hey there. I don't own a pair of these socks but as I was going through the discussion I saw your post and decided to share my experience. I've worked a variety of field jobs from the Florida marshlands and everglades catching alligators (ecotoxicology lab) to conducting bird surveys in southern Oregon and N. Cali.
The best socks are the merino wool socks, for hot weather Smartwool has the best selection and construction of thinner, breathable merino wool socks. I've tried other companies like Wigwam and Iniji but they suck at making a effective and comfortable thin wool sock. Everyone else is for thicker wool socks.
This drop, while it's "waterproof" they can't breathe and you can see how disappointed people are in the above comments with their purchase. Best waterproof sock is one that can wick away moisture and dry the fastest. My feet, with Smartwool socks, are always dry and comfortable. If i trod through a puddle and the sock gets soaked... I can't remember this being a problem bc my mid-ankle boots have goretex but the feet will dry out.
There have been times where I wore my Smartwool socks w my Keens, gotten then soaked and within 10 minutes they dried up. Not all smartwool socks are the same. Some have more cushion on the sole so if you get these wet then they do tend to carry that moisture a bit longer. It's just one of those things. I've accumulated so many smartwool socks and gotten rid of all my cotton. Don't get me wrong, if there's a very dirty place to go then I still have some cotton socks. But the smartwool socks are sooo goood. I mean it's crazy. Get em online for ~$8-10 each.
You (I do) can wear your smartwool socks for up to a week before feeling like they need to be washed. I tend to wear a pair for 2-4 days before cycling through. I put them inside out in the washer w cold water and whatever detergent and YOU MUST HANG DRY THEM!!!! DO NOT PUT THEM IN THE DRYER OTHERWISE RIP WOOL SOCKS!!!
Synthetic socks are trash. they can try to be good but they'll never amount up to the evolution with what wool has.

Are these true to size? I'm 7.5 with most shoes. Wondering which size to get.. S/M or M/L. Worried that M/L will be too loose. Anyone?

I wonder how these would perform in a creek crossing that has that crazy-slippery algae build-up on the rocks. The kind where rubber soles = instant wipe out. I took a decent fall last week trying to cross in my hiking boots. My rubber water shoes wouldn't have fared any better.
