Some people value sound quality over bells and whistles. Although I share your frustration, the fact that this DAP is said to sound better than the AK120 Titan (a DAP that is 8.5x massdrop's price) makes this a massive bargain. Additionally, you can just convert your MP3 files to WAV

I have to say though, I'm quite jealous of the fact that even 10 hours of battery life is unacceptable to you. I wish I had that much time to listen to my library lol.

Hz250From what I understand there are three iterations of Shozy Alien. The first has silver control ring on all black, silver and grey colors. That control ring and the power button were one level with the body, control symbols not painted, headphones socket is silver metal. Supposedly it was a pre-production/early run units. http://www.headfonia.com/canjam-europe-2014-picture-report/8/
The second generation had control ring raised a bit and power button slightly sunken in the body with the control ring matched in color, control symbols not painted, headphones socket color matched. The third iteration is similar to the second except control symbols on the ring painted white and headphones socket moved inside the aluminum body. From the pictures on Massdrop it looks like we getting the third version.

Hz250I'd normally badger anyone who recommends converting from lossy to lossless, but in this case I'd agree, you can easily convert your mp3s to FLAC or WAV without problem. There are several available tools: foobar2k has a great one if you're using Windows, and I'm pretty sure ffmpeg can do it if you're on GNU/Linux.
Or just have the media be encoded in FLAC from whatever source.
