sistineI don't know much in terms of construction, but here's a quick rundown of the changes I notice:
-Shuron is Made in the USA -RayBan is made in Italy (note that MII requires a lot less of the work to actually be done in the country, fwiw. Not sure how much is done there for RayBan). -Shuron is the originator of the browline design -Rayban is owned by Luxottica, which controls the pricing for almost all of the eyewear in the world (including stores like Sunglass Hut and insurance companies like VSP). -Shuron is one of the few remaining independent eyewear brands left.
Needless to say, I personally have a stronger interest in independent brands like Shuron.

IanAndersonThanks so much! I am more intrigued about finding out more on Luxoticca and what companies are independent, since they make false competition.

sistineI have a pair of Clubmasters, two pairs actually...the ones I have were made in China. IIRC, I bought both 3+ years ago for around $90/pair. At the time the only frame option was 51mm lens size, and the ear piece is 145mm. They fit fine. I'm 6'1", 245 lbs. This time around I went with 52mm lens size which should fit fine as they will only be 1mm larger, not much difference there, and 5mm longer on the ear piece length, which too is negligible. I think the biggest difference is the Ray Bays aren't Polarized where the Shuron Escapades are. That said, Ray Ban offers Polarized lenses but IIRC the option was for glass lens and bumped the price up quite a bit

sistine60 Minutes did a great piece on Luxottica a couple of years ago, I think you can find it online. It really is fascinating how much they control the market.

IanAndersonWatching the 60 Minutes vid on Luxottica is what put me off Ray Bans when I was looking into them, would much rather support an independent company willing to offer a unique product

IanAndersonActually, the RayBan Clubmasters that I purchased from a leading eyewear store and had my perception out in were made in China. I then looked at several online retailers and found that all the Clubmasters seem to be made in ChIna now. The Wayferers look to still be made in Italy. YMMV.

NRMairIf I knew about Shuron when I bought my Clubmasters, I would have went with Shuron instead. I like the fact that they are independent and made in USA.
