To say that Shwood comes from humble beginnings would be an understatement. The company’s first pair of sunglasses was whittled by hand from the limb of a madrone tree. They were fitted with lenses purchased from a corner store, and finished with a set of rusty hinges from an old cabinet. That was 2009. Today, Shwood has replaced the pocket knife with a laser cutter. The lenses, though they’re still ground to spec in-house, hail from German manufacturer Carl Zeiss. And the home office? It’s still in Portland, Oregon, but it’s no longer a literal home. Some things never change, though. Like that first pair of Shwood shades, each pair today is made in-house, in Portland, with the goal of showcasing the natural beauty of the materials.
Note: At checkout, choose from five different color combinations.
A new take on Shwood’s classic-contemporary Govy style, the Govy 2 has a moderately boxy, angular design that’s great for anyone who prefers a bold look. Each pair is fitted with Carl Zeiss polarized lenses for 100-percent UVA/UVB protection. Depending on which pair you get, the frame will be made of walnut or premium Mazzucchelli acetate with hardwood inlays on the arms. The Govy 2 works especially well on round, oval, and heart-shaped faces.
