To say that Shwood comes from humble beginnings would be an understatement. The company’s first pair of sunglasses was whittled by hand from the limb of a madrone tree. They were fitted with lenses purchased from a corner store, and finished with a set of rusty hinges from an old cabinet. That was 2009. Today, Shwood has replaced the pocket knife with a laser cutter. The lenses, though they’re still ground to spec in-house, hail from German manufacturer Carl Zeiss. And the home office? It’s still in Portland, Oregon, but it’s no longer a literal home. Some things never change, though. Like that first pair of Shwood shades, each pair today is made in Portland with the goal of showcasing the natural beauty of the materials.
Note: At checkout, choose the bourbon/matte silver frame with gray lenses, the dark forest/matte gold frame with brown lenses, or the vintage tortoise/silver with G15 lenses.
A new take on an iconic vintage silhouette, the Ainsworth features a combination of premium Italian acetate, metal fixtures, and wood inlays.
