Dammit! I just bought this lens on Amazon for full price. It NEVER goes on sale from any major retailer. They don't need to put it on sale because it just sales so well.
I've seen grey market sales for closer to $700, some small camera shops (probably again grey market) have sales and bundles but that is still pretty rare.
Right now looking on Amazon US this lens is $800, B&H is $800, Adorama is $800. I'm not sure what type of deals people are looking for with this but if I didn't already have this I'd jump on it and use the saved cash to buy a UV/Polarizing filter and be very happy.
Only way to get this lens (non grey market) for closer to $700 USD is used. If that's the price you're looking for new... Don't hold your breath!
All that said I love this lens! It's referred to by many as "The YouTuber Lens" because it's great for videographers. Specifically product review and unboxing videos. The Bokeh is very nice, the focus ring is very smooth and has a long travel which makes slow macro style focus pulls much easier than with other non-cine lens. Auto focus is also very quick and accurate and minimum focus distance is pretty short, better than every other non-macro lens I've tried. I'm really happy with the sharpness as well.
The zoom ring is very smooth (can get nice vertigo style dolly-zooms) and all of the elements are internal so there's no lens creep when doing top down shots. The 1.8 aperture throughout the focal range is so nice for people that are a bit starved for light but you have to get used to shooting at that shallow DoF. You can zoom and not have to worry about exposure changes due to variable aperture like with less expensive zoom lenses. Again very nice for video work
Really I leave this lens on my 60D 80% of the time now for video work. It's essentially an inexpensive cine-zoom. I also have a 18-135mm 3.5-4.6 kit lens, Canon 50mm 1.8 and Sigma 24-70mm 2.8. But mainly use the 18-35.
Since all the elements are internal on this it is very long. It's also quite heavy because of the high quality elements inside and metal construction. The nifty-fifty 1.8 and kit lens from Canon feel like cheap plastic toys compared to this. Dat Sigma is more along the lines of Canon L quality.
But seriously if you do anything like product reviews, strap this on, get a focus handle, set the aperture you need for the shot, set the shutter according to your frame rate/motion then adjust the ISO for correct exposure. Easy-peasy-lemon-squeezy! One negative is that the max aperture is only 16 where other lenses go up to 22 or 32 so keep that in mind if you shoot stuff that requires you to stopped way down a lot (Landscapes/Long exposures)
Here are two videos I recently filmed primarily if not exclusively with this lens:

Carbonguy9Thank you for the well thought out reply! I've always been a fan of Sigma's wide lens products. I'm definitely leaning closer to getting this for my current Dx body but I'm also considering upgrading to an Fx in the next year... Decisions, decisions!!!

MikeMDWill there be any warranty issues? Like with the Nikon lens? Also I hope the shipping and handle will be better than my previous drops. As stated before, I do like to keep my boxes of the products I buy.
