It says "USA Spec" and 1-year warranty. Is the "vendor" an authorized Sigma retailer? If so wouldn't it be a 4-year warranty? If not this is a gray-market lens, correct?
sting11165My question as well. Gray market would explain the price difference, but I'd like to know if there are potential future issues trying to have it serviced.
I've got one of these (purchased from AD) - fantastic lens, just as good as any of the 5 L lenses I have from Canon (although to be fair I don't have a Canon L Prime).
This is the international version of the lens and not the USA version. How does this work warranty wise?
Is there a difference in quality between the USA and international versions? I notice the international lenses are far less money.
Having a hard time not jumping on this. The only negatives are that it's a rather large prime for daily carrying round on my 6D. And I'm not clear on the whole warranty thing. Though to be fair, I've never had to avail my self of a warranty on any of my photography gear. (though it's all Canon save for the one Rokinon 14mm)
I have heard nothing but positive things about the art lenses. A few months ago Massdrop began advertising that some of their photography drops (Nikon, Canon and Sigma, among others) would include USA warranties. What they have failed to understand, and don't seem to care about, is that without a receipt from an authorized dealer (not just a receipt from Massdrop) the warranty is invalid, even if the product is actually coming from an authorized dealer with Massdrop acting as a middleman. Massdrop has done a terrible job responding to those of us raising this concern. Last week, someone who participated in one of these drops had their warranty invalidated by Canon and was charged for a repair. Massdrop reimbursed them, but has done nothing to further clarify the issue. Unethical behavior to say the least.
jeremy205100Thanks for the post. I’m getting tired of ambiguous warranties and months long shipping windows. If I want cheap gray market, eBay is ready to ship ASAP. These “drops” are rarely deals that can’t be had somewhere else. The Massdrop editions of headphones are cool, but still there’s that insane wait! Come on...
The drops change depending on what we can source and at times we will have multiple options and sometimes we will only have one. Sorry for the confusion.
