EX is/was their better line. Like Canon's L. I've always enjoyed Sigma EX lenses, I own three and used more than that. Some of their prime lenses do have backfocus issues on occasion. You should certainly test your lens when getting specific lenses from Sigma (not all of their lenses have this issue). It's rare, I never had problems, but people have reported them enough. I've never had issues with auto-focus, though it's not as nice as Canon's autofocus (not many are). It's more than adequate. Again, some Sigma lenses were not as fast with auto-focus as others...But this one with "HSM" which is Sigma's version of Canon's "USM." Again, not quite as nice, but very good. I think most of Sigma's lenses you'll find now have the better motor. I've never had color issues, though Sigma lenses are typically warmer. I like this quality, but if you don't it's easy to correct in post processing or even via camera adjustments. Any sort of color imbalance in a lens (of any make) is likely going to be very minor and very easily corrected since we're in a digital age...I wouldn't see this as an issue unless it was some sort of weird pattern or something actually defective with the lens. The Sigma "art" lens is their newer and better line for sure. The price tag on the art lenses is quite high though. I'd take an EX any day. I've seen comparisons and I'm not sure the higher price tag on the art lenses is worth it to be frank. I also like the matte crackle finish on the EX, it feels more professional. I hope the art lenses come down in price. I'd probably buy one used...Or possibly new if I didn't have an EX. So when considering an EX, an Art lens is most certainly a worthwhile consideration if you have it in your budget. But there's nothing wrong with EX lenses in general. They are quite sharp and worthy alternatives to more expensive lenses.
