FWIW I recently had a chance to try these and shoot them out at home against my B&W MM-1.
For $149 they are decent speakers for near field music listening and at times I actually preferred them for some rock. For everything else the MM-1 was considerably superior. The MSRP on these is nuts, as they are just off the shelf drivers and a fabric tweeter, but the Massdrop price is reasonable for what you get.
As compared to the A2s I would say these are better, I actually felt the A2 were terrible for music and I returned them before getting the MM-1.
The MM-1 are still the gold standard, too bad they are never on sale.

SanlitunThanks for the info about the A2s, how's the size in comparison?
*edit* on massdrop they're listed as: 4.33 x 4.33 x 7.87 in (11 x 11 x 20 cm) each speaker vs 4" x 5.75" x 6" for the A2s.
