I'm in the market for some good desktop monitors like these, but I was wondering how these stack up sound wise against the Kanto YU5 Speaker System which I also see here on Massdrop for a bit more money. Any thoughts or opinions would be greatly appreciated. I know sound is subjective, but I haven't heard either of these systems.

AlucardI got these speakers on the last drop. They are very average sounding overall with very colored bass. They are not worth even close to the MSRP of $499 and really don't stack up well against other speakers in the $149 price of the drop. I've had them two weeks and I'm already shopping for some thing with much more accurate sound. I'm using these with a current model 27" iMac with wav and flac source material. Using the DAC in the speakers produced really bad sound quality and little overall volume, using the headphone jack sound is much better with no distortion and what I would consider normal (or more then adequate) volume.
Right now I'm thinking about ordering a pair of the NHT computer speakers. It's in the $400 range but I've been very happy with my larger NHT speakers. I'd love to hear the KEF X300A but I'm afraid they might be too large for my desk.

Lincoln76107Thx for the reply Lincoln. I decided to go with something else as well. I'm really considering the JBL monitors on massdrop right now as well as some other hifi speaker options out there :)

AlucardI got the NHT Superpower 2.1 speakers today ($400). I listened to the Simple Audio all day today and just unboxed the NHT's and hooked them up, in minutes I am beyond happy. The good luck is I can probably dump the Simple Audio for more then I paid for on this drop. In the end, the Simple Audio is like BOSE, expensive MSRP, large but nothing close to accurate sound. The NHT is a true accurate representation of the recording, which is exactly what I was looking for.
I hope you enjoy your choice as well.

GbrldownThey stack up against some products by other computer speaker companies sure. If you just want small speakers pro audio companies like Genelec and Focal produce powered monitors at this size footprint with far superior sound.
