You can break up your flowers with your hands or try throwing them into your coffee grinder, but you’re better off betting on a dedicated device to get the job done right. Bringing you to a whole new height of grinding ability, the SLX 206 2-Stage Grinder features a simple and intelligent design that lets you get the most out of your plant matter Read More
I've had the 206 for about 5 months now. Incredible grinder. Haven't needed to clean it yet and no signs of pollen collection in the corners like on my Space Case 2 piece.
The top lid having ceramic would be a nice addition, but I have yet to have any sticky buildup on in between the lids, which was my major grief with my SC 2 piece.
I agree the teeth aren't very sharp, at least compared to my SC 2 piece, but it certainly gets the job done. Much easier if you break up your herb into smaller pieces.
I also think that the machining is sharp, but again, break your herb smaller and it will be easier on the hands, especially after the first 3-5 turns.
As for the magnets, they are slightly weaker than most I've used. It takes 3-4 "shakes" while holding the top lid to get the bottom piece to fall off. Not bad, but ideally they will never fall off. I don't ever imagine a situation where I pick up the grinder off the table and the pieces fall off.
For the bag situation that OrganicCali pointed out, there are easy solutions available, such as using the small cardboard box that held the grinder when shipped or use a rubber band. Not convenient, but hardly a fault that would steer me away from the SLX 206.
If SLX adds ceramic on the top lid and uses knurls over divots on the lid, I have no doubt SLX will be one of the top grinder companies out there, at least for 2 piece.
pro: ceramic coating works very well.
cons: pretty much everything else. teeth are dull, the grinder is not fully coated with ceramic (the lip on the top piece is just aluminium; thus all the sticky shit goes there and stops the grinder from moving), the corners on the outside are too sharp and the magnet isn't close to being strong enough.
the good news is that all of the deficits here are fixable. coat the entire surface with ceramic, including the top lip, install a stronger magnet and refine the edges both inside and out and there will be an amazing product to buy.
Got mine about a week ago, it's really nice, but the machining is so sharp it cuts-up my hand when I use it. Gonna have to find a way to smooth it out a bit without ruining the finish. Maybe some Sugru will do the trick. Anyone else notice this?
Got mine today. Magnet seems to hold fine for me.
Really impressed with the grinds it produces. Mine came with a slight chip on the coating on one of the upper blades but I'll live with it.
Overall, great quality and excellent for the price; I'm replacing my current 4-piece with it due to the awesomeness.
Received mine today. Very nice tool. Only two gripes... I wish the magnets held the pieces together a little more strongly. My space case lid does not separate nearly as easily. Also, the teflon ring is not attached to the grinder like with space case... O well, hopefully it doesn't cause any problems.
OrganiCaliHey OrganiCali,
I would have to agree that space case and most grinders do stick together well but the SLX products are ceramic-coated to ensure non-sticky situations. We want to make sure its only sticky in all the right places so let us know of anything that could be better.
JaysunThe space case pieces do not stay together because they are "sticky" but because they seem to be lighter and also have a stronger magnet force. I'm just concerned about the SLX pieces separating while being stored in a bag or such. Maybe it will be one just for home use.
