Literally just joined Massdrop to buy another one of these as a present for someone.
I already own one (gold 4 piece), and I love it. I've had it for a little over a month, and there's almost zero residue accumulation so far. Compared to other grinders I've owned, it's night and day. As someone mentioned, there aren't many reviews out yet as these are pretty new, but I'll give you guys a little write up.
1. The coating is slick. As I said, almost zero resin accumulation in over a month of very heavy use. Anything that doesn't come right off just falls out with a gentle tap. For me, this isn’t about sticking, although that’s a great benefit as well. It’s about NOT LOOSING ANY “POLLEN” AS RESIDUE STUCK TO THE GRINDER! If I put something into my grinder, I want to get it out. I feel like while my other grinders are nice (I won't name names, but I own most of the premium grinders), I waste a lot of the most potent part of my product by having it stick to the teeth. This has almost entirely solved that problem.
2. The machining is top notch. The pieces fit together nicely, and there’s zero wiggle when it’s assembled. One note - since the tolerances are so tight, if you really crank down on the bottom piece (pollen collection area, below the screen), it can be difficult to open. That said, I vastly prefer this to a a loose, poorly fitting grinder.
3. The pollen collection is great. I get more pollen with this than my other grinders not because the screen is so large plant matter falls though (a common reason people THINK they’re getting good collection), but because it isn’t getting stuck to the teeth!
4. Size - I think it's just about perfect. Around 2.5 inches is big enough to provide me with a great grip (average sized hands) but not too big to be unwieldily. It isn’t going to fit easily into your jean pockets, but it fits into cargo pants no problem. Obviously fits into any bags, including my GF’s purse when we’re taking a burn-walk and need to roll outside. I have no problem girding enough for a fat king-size paper in one go.
5. Finally… dang. This thing is just really pretty. The gold is very deep, like real burnished gold. I’ve seen other gold grinders that looked, for lack of a better word, like the color was thin. The coating has a beautiful sparkly metallic look too, and the two-tone with the gold is just awesome. Sometimes I leave it out when I'm finished; it's like table-jewelry.
If anyone has any questions hit me up. I’ll do my best to help you out.
Peace.
