Anyone got any thoughts on how this would compare with Audioquest Black (Red probably in a different league)?

msq123I was just about to post this same question! I'm curious as well.

msq123It's incomparable. Good dedicated DAC, and codec my thoudhts it's the same level of apple adapter http://www.apple.com/shop/product/MMX62AM/A/lightning-to-35-mm-headphone-jack-adapter?fnode=97

Dmitrysthat does't make sense.. why would I opt for this instead of the cheaper or even free alternative from Apple. I understand that both feature Cirrus DAC module but there must be some difference between Cirrus Logic CS42L42 (used Sin MSL Icon Lightning DAC/Amp) and Cirrus Logic 338S00105 in iPhone 6 and above. The problem is that in iPhone it is a proprietary chip that is not on Cirrus Logic's website nor anywhere else so you could be right that both of these could be very similar but who knows??

msq123I got my DragonfyRed 3 weeks and it's awesome! So much clarity, sound separation and improved soundstage. Can't listen to my iPhone 6s Plus without it. I pair it with UE P600 (quad drivers). Dragonfly is worth having! Luv it!!

Seizagaz123I got Reds earlier this week and although haven't had a chance to hear it a lot but I am loving what I have listened so far. I am pairing it with my B&W P9s and the combination is amazing. I don't have iPhone camera adapter yet so only heard it on my MacBook but I am sure it must be the same on an iPhone. i am just curious about this DAC because you don't need any cable/adapter to connect it to your iOS device but can't seem to find anything.

msq123One of the problems is that the Red seems to have "pops and click sounds" when used with the USB 2.0 Camera adapter. apparently the Red works best with the larger USB3.0 camera adapter. for now it sounds like the dragonfly black is the best choice--- battery life on all of these choices are also of a concern.

StevePAI have heard about it and also read it on AQ's FAQ section. According to them this could occur to both Red and Black dacs and neither them or Apple have been able to determine the cause but as you said USB3 connector fixes the issue. So maybe that's the best way to go for now.
I was torn between Red and Black and could not find much of a difference upon initial listening but I think it is about future proofing with 2.1v Red is more capable of driving less sensitive headphones.
When I was listening to Senheiser 600s in the shop certain songs were brought out with more clarity on Reds But they are very capable. Battery consumption should be negligible as I have read everywhere but can't vouch for it yet.

msq123Yeah- I did confirm that as well. Initial I thought it was only the red. I may go for a black as I only want to drive Grados and would like the theoretically lower power consumption. This SMSL stil intrigues me... wish we had a few reviews.

StevePAI bought CCK (USB v2.0) today and tried it with DFR on my 6s running iOS 10.1.1 and also on my wife's 7 Plus (running the same iOS) and haven't had any crackling sounds/pops. Worth looking at iOS version people are running experiencing the issue. Is it resolved in the last update??
