Should I get in on this or save a few bucks and go with SMSL SD793-II on Amazon? I'm looking for a good DAC/Amp to hook up to my PC and use with my Sennheiser HD558's.

JonnyFlashI suggest getting smsl m3. You can look up Z Reviews on youtube on a review for SMSL m3 and it cost much more cheaper too

JonnyFlashI have the HD558s and own an SMSL SD793-II. I've used the OEM pads and someone 3D printed me adapters that allows me to attach HM5 pads. The problem I have with that DAC/amp is that the DAC to my knowledge is great. I was running off of the amp for a while and I thought the 558s were so supposed to be warm and not dry. I soon pulled out an RCA to 3.5mm cable out from my desk, plugged the headphones into It and sure enough, the amp dries out the sound. It takes away everything that the 558s do good and I think also gives them this tin canny vibe in the treble. You can definitely run the headphones off of the DAC alone, I have plenty of headroom but I'm going to be getting some modified T50RPs from the same guy that 3D printed me those adapters and I don't quite know the DAC can run them. I'll find out. Some of the clarity I believe is also lost in the amplifier. It's hard-ish to tell with 558s but it's enough to notice. If I could do this over, I'd try to get a Micca Origen but I was broke and it was birthday money. If you have some sort of income and can save for this, i'm sure it will be dropped again. I'll pitch in and request the drop as i'm curious about it as well.
http://www.modhouseaudio.com/sennheiser-earpad-adapters/ I discussed the whole 598s compatibility with this guy and I don't know if he found out they work or what. I think the 598s have bigger rings for the pads than the 558s but I don't know. I'm the one that gave him the idea, the question arose so I browsed forums with some knowledge prior. I wouldn't guarantee they'd work with 598s.

Red line are his T50RPs (Argon)
